America at the Movies Essay

Everyone has their own idea of what the “perfect” family consists of. To some people a perfect family would have two children, a dog, and a white picket fence; while others may think the perfect family lives a more opulent lifestyle. We often compare our lives with those of television characters. These make believe families we see on television can usually seem as though they are flawless, for example “The Brady Bunch,” an old television show that is about a family with a mom, a dad, and six children. The Brady Bunch family had a nice home, in a safe neighborhood and the children almost always did as they were told. In reality a lot of families live with unkempt homes and dysfunction. Many people don’t realize how silly it is to idolize a family on television; after all they are just pretend. “America at the Movies,” shows that real families don’t actually live picture perfect lives.

It is very hard for one to always control their temper. Although you may not mean to it can be very easy to upset someone whom you care about, this is displayed in the movie “Life With Father.” In the movie a dour father raises his voice at his young son simple because he doesn’t want to finish eating his oatmeal. Even the most loving and understanding family members have bad days. In the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” a husband gets extremely angry one day and shocks his family, whom have never seen him act that way. Other family’s troubles seem to be based more out of love and concern. “Father of the Bride” is about a father who is upset about letting his little girl go. She is getting married to a man the father doesn’t even know. He is concerned about his daughter’s future, if the man she is marrying has a good job and can support her.

So as you can see, there is no such thing as the perfect family. Everyone has his or her own flaws and personalities that can clash with those of others. Like the saying goes “You always hurt the one you love.” When you are around someone a lot you tend to take your aggressions out on them; which is a major factor in why families don’t always get along. Until the end of time people will always want the things that they cannot have, and in this case it would mean not having the perfect family.
