Shoplifting is a major problem in today life. The temptation of not paying for something, just hiding it away and saving your own money is a large factor for some people. The culprit just thinks hes getting a product for free and doesnt know what hes actually doing to himself and the community. Shoplifting effects everyone, yourself and the everyone in the local neighborhood.

In this essay Im going to explain some of the circumstances of stealing from local stores, or any store. After Ive been caught stealing I found out how wrong it is and how it is a disadvantage to everyone. The stores are tying to crack down on shoplifters by making the punishments as strict as possible.

Shoplifting effects the community in a big way. The stores get about three cents per every dollar purchased for an item. So if you figure that they dont make a whole lot of money out of profit. Every shoplifter that takes a product also is taking the product, which costs money by the store so that is also a set back and puts them more in dept. Some stores might even closed down because of shoplifters making the store go bankrupt.

The stores usually raise there prices and then causes more shoplifting, but the people that dont shoplift just end up having to pay more for the product or else go somewhere else to shop. If the customer goes to a different store because of the rising prices the store will also lose business therefore could cause them to go out of business if enough customers leave.

Custom Essays on shoplifting

From shoplifting Ive found out what happens to the stores and the people that keep trying to get five finger discount on products. If you do shoplift you feel immense humiliation and distrust from friends and family, and your own conscious is hurt if it isnt then there is something wrong with your feelings not to feel bad about stealing from stores. Every time you steal from stores they are set back that much money and might even have to fire someone that could be one of your friends.

People in the community lose respect for you. If you do know someone that is in teen court or are friends with someone that is in teen court you will get your discipline from them, believe me I know. It helps out the community service areas if you have to do community service while the culprit is stuck doing numerous hours of work, without any pay, but it doesnt help you at all.

Shoplifting can also affect you towards the community, because if you have shoplifting on your record it will be difficult to get a job, some dont want people who break the law working for them. Just shoplifting from that store will prevent you from getting a job there ever or any of that kind if it is a chain.

Just the fact of breaking the law while shoplifting should be bad enough reason not to do it. Even if it does effect your community, and you should care about that. Shoplifting is a crime and has a major consequence compared to what you can get out of it. Even if peer pressure is a factor, or just the fact that you wanted the product and didnt have the money, stealing is wrong. Its self righteously wrong and its against the law and Im sorry for what I did.

Adrian Ochoa

"Long Walk to Forever" by Kurt Vonnegut is a novel about a timid young man named Newt with only one goal to achieve. His goal is to convince and embezzle a beautiful young woman's heart named Catharine. "Long Walk to Forever" is a beautifully written novel with many metaphors. Kurt does not inform the reader at the end if Newt induces Catharine to his wicked persuasions. This is an example of how Kurt plays with the novel and why this story is accordingly well written. The story also gives the reader the choice of ending the story the way the reader desires.

The first phrase I chose is the opening sentence. The opening sentence elucidates the novel's plot. "They had grown up next to each other, on the fringe of a city, near fields and woods and orchards, within sight of a lovely bell tower that belonged to a school for the blind." The sentence also emphasizes the setting but most importantly there is a deeper meaning. The lovely bell tower describes the love between Newt and Catharine. The school for the blind illustrates sightless love between the characters. They have been in love for years but they never recognized the affection they had for each other.

"'I am not sorry we kissed. That was sweet. We should have kissed, we've been so close. I'll always remember you Newt, and good luck,'" is the second phrase I chose to analyze. This is not the way to say farewell to a friend that you do not love. If Catharine is in love with her fianclike she says she is then there is no way she can tell Newt she is not sorry for kissing him. This phrase notifies the reader that Catharine is deeply in love with Newt and that she is going to end up with him. Newt is one of the most important people in Catharine's heart and soul. It helps notify the reader that she is in love with him when she informs Newt she will always remember him.

The last sentence I chose to analyze is the ending sentence. The ending sentence is an example of how Kurt plays with the novel and the reader. "She ran to him, put her arms around him, could not speak." It does not point out if Catharine marries his fiancor Newt. It depends on how you perceive the sentence. Some readers perceive that the previous sentence is saying that Catharine loves Newt when she puts her arms around him. Other readers perceive Catharine's hug as a friendly one. Her hug was a way of saying farewell to an old friend. It is not clear if Catharine could not speak because she was going to leave her one true love or because she was leaving her good friend.

In conclusion "Long Walk to Forever" is one of the best short stories I have ever read. It is not only a romantic novel but one fill with metaphors with profound meaning. I chose three phrases that demonstrate Kurt's writing ability. The opening sentence describes the setting and the plot. The second phrase I chose gives the reader the feeling that Catharine will marry Newt. The ending sentence gives the reader the opportunity to end the story like he wishes.

People are often afraid of change; the countless uncertainties, endless consequences and the fear of loss deter people from freely accepting the idea of change. In Emily Dickinson's 'I years had been from home? the sense of fear envelops the poem, generating a dark and nostalgic tone. In this case, change is not directly stated, however change is strongly delivered by personifying the 'door? exercising it as a character. The poem takes place 'before the door?which her 'trembling hand?cannot open; the fear of what may lie beyond the door is her barricade.

The persona has left 'home?and many years have passed by. The place of belonging, suggested in the word 'home? is unwelcoming as they 'dared not enter? The persona is scared of what has changed and how that would affect them personally. The imaginary 'face I never saw before?is deemed confronting and cold as they 'stared stolid into mine? They are forced to create their own scenario to make content their chaotic state of mind.

The persona 'leaned?and 'lingered?before the door and was struck by the realisation of 'the second life? This revelation of a new life was brought upon by the massive change that had taken place ?'that I could fear a door? Their 'consternation?on the fact they could be afraid of a 'door?nips at the persona's conscience. It is obvious that the persona's state of mind was 'crumbling?as her 'laugh?revealed glimpses of madness.

The fifth stanza is significant as it uncovers the fear of falling so deep 'in?sadness and dejection. The persona 'fitted to the latch?with 'trembling care?however the thought of the 'awful door would spring?concludes their fight to cross the boundary of the 'door?

Custom writing service can write essays on change revealed in Emily dickinson's "i years have been from home"

The last stanza reveals the fragility and vulnerability of her state as the movement of her 'fingers?is as 'cautious as glass? The persona cannot cope with what may lie beyond the door and 'fled gasping from the house?'like a thief? Comparing her actions to that of a 'theif?illustrates the desperate attempt to flee the house and not be caught.

Time is bound to bring change, as the future is inseparably entwined with change. To fear change is ultimately being afraid of what life has in store for everyone. The persona is caught in the mesh of time, and the 'business but a life I left?draws them back to what they believed was 'home? which in reality was an hostile and lonely place.

1. Does American Rice "have what it takes" to be a successful international competitor? Yes or no, and why?

In my opinion, American Rice has the competitive advantages to be a successful international competitor

- the combination of product and rice source diversity, coupled with predominance of branded sales

- 1% of the US rice crop, 5% of US rice exports and 1% of the US domestic retail, supermarket rice sales Þ huge resources and already strong export basement

- 14 58% of ARI's revenues derived from export sales

- first mover strategy to enter new markets

for instance the Japanese market (medium and short grain rice preference)

Þ 6% of rice shipments from US market to Japan

- the company's reputation for selling high quality rice

- no international competitor that would control more than 5% of the export market

. Is Vietnam a suitable expansion location for American Rice? Yes or no, and why?

I'm not that sure that Vietnam is a suitable expansion location considering those facts

- predominantly low quality rice exports (due to poor drying, milling and seed)

- frequent delays in filling contracts

- high shipping costs

- the relationship between rice exports and domestic consumption = an important issue for Vietnam's agricultural sector exportable surplus of rice vs. regional rice shortages that result in Government's restricting export measures.

- Corporate profits in Vietnam are subject to 50% tax

- Numerous cultural differences exist between the Vietnamese and Western invertors negotiating style vs. legal concepts

- joint venture arrangements include technical transfer as part of a capital contribution

Nevertheless, Vietnam presents also some advantages, such as

- rice = the Vietnam's second largest export item after oil

- only regional food corporations and provincial food companies possess licences to export rice (Vinafood belongs to these three)

- Vinafood II has concentrated on higher quality Vietnamese rice and has become Vietnam's largest rice exporter (over $00 million and 5-40% of Vietnam's total rice exports in 1)

If Vinafood II doesn't succeed to obtain the government agreements (licence, tax reductions…), Vietnam is not suitable. Anyway it seems risky.

. What was the entry mode that American Rice chose to access Vietnam? How do you evaluate this entry mode?

American Rice chose to set up a joint venture with Vinafood II to access Vietnam.

Considering Vietnam is a communist republic, the fact that Vinafood II is government owned can facilitate the arrangements.

On the other hand, regarding History, Americans and Vietnamese are not best friends, and confidence will be hard to build between the two parts.

IRA is going to provide 55% of the capital + furnish machinery, equipment, technology and some working capital + consulting competencies.

I think IRA's commit

Romeo and Juliet vs. West Side Story

Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story are both similar stories. West Side Story is a parody of Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare. The difference between the two is that one is theatrical and the other is play form. In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting Romeo and Juliet's Romeo from West Side Story's Tony. These two characters do many thinks alike in order to achieve the goal of winning the girl of their dreams.

Romeo and Tony are both trying to find the girl of their dreams. They both end up meeting a beautiful girl that they feel have known their whole lives. Romeo falls madly in love with Juliet who he meets at a masquerade ball. He sees her out of the corner of his eye and realizes that she is the one for him. Romeo goes up to her and starts dancing with her, which she then knows that he is the one for her. Paris, the man Juliet is supposed to marry, finds out that Romeo is a Montague and starts to pick a fight with Romeo. Lord Capulet ends up stopping the fight. This is almost exactly the same thing that happens to Tony in West Side Story.

Tony was a member of the Jet's, a gang, until he got a job. He didn't want to be in the gang anymore once he got the job. Riff, the leader of the gang, came to Tony and told him to attend a dance. When Tony arrived at the dance Riff and the Jets were having a dance off against the Sharks, the rival gang. When Tony looks to his left he sees a beautiful girl in a white dress. They start walking towards each other and when they reach each other they start to sing. They get real close and eventually they kiss. He brother, who happens to be the leader of the Sharks, gets mad and pulls her away from Tony and sent her home. Tony didn't want to find out her name until she was almost gone. This causes the fight between the Jets and the Sharks to get worse.

Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story sadly ended up in a tragedy. Things happened to Romeo and Tony that weren't supposed to happen. Romeo was supposed to marry Juliet but that never happened. Juliet was in a tomb lying down after she took some poison that was supposed to make her sleep for 48 hours. When Romeo found her he thought she was dead so he killed himself. When Juliet woke and saw him dead she took a knife and killed herself. This is almost exactly what happened to Tony except someone killed him but she didn't kill herself. Tony fell madly in love with Maria until the person that her brother set her up with found out and killed Tony. Maria was so sad but she lived on.

Custom Essays on Romeo and Juliet vs. West Side Story

These two stories were very similar to each other. They both ended up being tragedies. Both men were killed because of love. Both characters had an amazing love for a girl and that's what kept them going. Friends and family tried to keep them away from the one person they loved but it didn't work. Romeo and Tony both had a love for a woman and even though they are no longer living their love is still there.

As evidenced in James Joyce's "Eveline", an abusive family life is difficult to separate from. In trying to leave an abusive household Eveline experiences great feelings of fear, anxiety, guilt, and tremendous sadness. All of these things incline her to settle back into the dusty and depressing lifethat she is leading.

A great deal of Eveline's difficulty in leaving is her feelings of guilt. Her house is a dusty and depressing shell of a home, "She looked round the room, reviewing all its familiar objects which she had dusted once a week for so many years, wondering where on earth all the dust came from." Even though she leads a bleak existence, she feels responsibility to what is left of her family. When her mother died she promised that she would take care of her father, the children and the house hold, and by leaving she feels as if she is disappointing her deceased mother. Though her drunken father can care for himself, there are two young children left in her care, "...see that the two young children who had been left in her charge went to school regularly and got their meals regularly." This tremendous sense of responsibility weighs down Eveline like an anchor.

Though Eveline dreams of escaping her life she still has not convinced herself that this is the right thing to do. She wants it but even though, "It was hard work-a hard life-but now that she was about to leave it she did not find it a wholly undesirable life." This only illustrates how great the hold of the abuse is. Eveline knows that her life is terrible and still cannot admit it without second guessing herself. When Frank first came around her father he felt threatened by Eveline having another male influence and forbade her to see him again, "One day he had quarreled with Frank and after that she had to meet her lover secretly."

Eveline's insecurity and inability to face a world that is different from her rigid and pitiful existence, causes her great fear and anxiety. Her father believes that Frank is up to no good but offers no explanation other than, "I know these sailor chaps." With nothing more than a stereotype he believes himself to be an authority on the subject. With him being a lonely, widowed, alcoholic and extremely overbearing and in need of ego-stroking it cannot be assumed that he truly had his daughter's best interest at mind when shunning Frank. Frank seems to be a well intentioned young man who cares about Eveline. As a sailor, if he wanted a fling he could have had one without having to bring the girl along with him, or even offering to do so.

Eveline's abusive background and fear of her father and being alone causes her to pass up a rare opportunity to change her life. She gave up the chance to be married to a good man and start a new life far away from her depressing home and cold and calloused father. Eveline returns to the same dusty, dead end life not knowing if she will ever get the chance to be married with her own family or if she will remain in the same place with a spirit as broken as the harmonium that sits in the family room.

Please note that this sample paper on eveline is for your review only. FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN

NOT KNOWING WHAT IS COMING AROUND THE CORNER OR IS HIDING UNDER THE BED SCARES ALMOST EVERYONE. VERY RARELY IS THERE ACTUALLY SOMETHING THERE, BUT FEAR CAN CAUSE PEOPLE TO ACT STRANGELY. IN THE NOVEL LORD OF THE FLIES, WILLIAM GOLDING SHOWS THAT FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN CAN DESTROY ORDER, AND MAY PROMOTE VIOLENCE.

ANXIETY CAUSES MANY PEOPLE TO PANIC AND GO AGAINST WHAT THEY WOULD NORMALLY DO. FOR EXAMPLE, A LITTLE BOY ON THE ISLAND WHO IS FRIGHTENED ASKS RALPH, "'WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT THE SNAKE-THING?'" (GOLDING 5). THERE IS NO SNAKE BUT THE BOY'S FEAR OF WHAT MIGHT BE OUT IN THE WOODS CAUSES HIM TO IMAGINE HE SEES A BEAST. HE BRINGS THIS UP AT A MEETING AND THROWS EVERYONE INTO A STATE OF PANIC. IN ADDITION, WHEN JACK HEARS ABOUT THE BEAST, HE WANTS TO GO AFTER IT WHILE RALPH WANTS TO FOCUS ON THE FIRE. JACK'S BELIEF IN THE BEAST TEARS HIM AND RALPH EVEN FURTHER APART, EVENTUALLY RUINING THEIR SOCIETY. IN FACT SIMON IS THE ONLY ONE WHO REALIZES THE BEAST IS NOT REAL, BUT HE IS TOO SOFT SPOKEN TO TELL ANYONE. FURTHERMORE, AFTER RALPH AND JACK SEE THE PARACHUTE MAN AND DECIDE NOT TO GO BACK UP TO THE MOUNTAIN PIGGY SAYS, "'WE GOT NO FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN. BUT WHAT'S WRONG WITH A FIRE DOWN HERE?'" (GOLDING 1). THE NONEXISTENT BEAST FORCES THE GROUP TO RELOCATE THE FIRE TO A MUCH LESS VISIBLE AREA THREATENING THEIR ALREADY DIM HOPES OF RESCUE. SIMON SAYS HE THINKS THE BOYS SHOULD CLIMB THE MOUNTAIN BUT AS USUAL NO ONE LISTENS TO HIM AND HORROR STOPS ANYONE FROM AGREEING WITH HIM. THE BOYS' FEAR RUINS ANY FORM OF CIVILIZATION THEY HAD, WHICH IN TURN TEARS THEM APART.

WHILE FEAR MAY CAUSE SOME TO PANIC IT CAN MAKE OTHERS BECOME VIOLENT. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN THE YOUNG BOY FIRST MENTIONS THE BEAST JACK SAYS, "'IF THERE WAS A SNAKE WE'D HUNT IT AND KILL IT'" (GOLDING 6). JACK DOES NOT EVEN KNOW IF THERE IS A SNAKE BUT HE HAS ALREADY DECIDED TO KILL IT. HIS UNCERTAINTY ABOUT THE BEAST MAKES HIM EVEN MORE VICIOUS THAN HE NORMALLY IS. IN ADDITION, WHEN A CREATURE COMES OUT OF THE FOREST DURING THE PARTY, "A THING WAS CRAWLING OUT OF THE FOREST… SIMONS DEAD BODY MOVED OUT TOWARDS THE SEA." (GOLDING15-154). THE BOYS HAVE NO IDEA THAT WHAT THEY ARE ACTUALLY KILLING IS SIMON. THE MOB PANICS THINKING SIMON IS THE BEAST AND THEY ATTACK WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT WHAT THEY SHOULD DO. IN ABSOLUTE HORROR THEY BECOME VIOLENT AND SIMON IS THE VICTIM OF THAT VIOLENCE. FURTHERMORE, EVEN AFTER HE SEES THE BEAST JACK'S PLAN IS STILL TO KILL IT. JACK DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THE BEAST WILL DO AND THAT UNCERTAINTY CAUSES HIM TO ACT MORE VIOLENTLY. JACK INSISTS ON KILLING THE ALREADY DEAD BEAST. HAD THE BOYS KNOWN THERE WAS NO BEAST SIMON WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN KILLED BUT THEIR CONCERN WITH A NONEXISTENT BEAST CAUSES THE DEATH OF ONE OF THEM.

THROUGHOUT THE BOOK SIMON IS ALONE IN REALIZING THE BEAST IS ONLY IN THEIR IMAGINATIONS. THEIR FEAR OF A DEAD BODY CAUSES MANY HORRIBLE EVENTS, AND HAD THE BOYS BEEN A LITTLE MORE INTELLIGENT MAYBE TWO MORE OF THEM WOULD HAVE LIVED LONG ENOUGH TO GET RESCUED.
