In this argument, the writer argues that all students should be required to take the drivers education course at Centerville High School. The writers reasoning is based on several accidents in and around Centerville over the past two years that involved teenage drivers, and that parents have complained that they are too busy to teach their own teenagers to drive. The writer also states that although there are two driving schools in Centerville, some parents cannot afford to pay for driving instruction. The writers argument is based on faulty logic and suffers from several critical flaws.

In the first place, the writer cites several accidents over the past two years in and around Centerville involving teenagers as evidence that they should be required to take a drivers education course at the high school. The writer assumes that these accidents were caused by the teenagers lack of drivers education, which may or may not be the case. There is no evidence presented that directly shows a causal link between the teenagers lack of drivers education and the cause of the accidents. It is entirely possible that these teenagers had already had the drivers education courses, and that the accidents were simply unavoidable or even the other drivers fault. Without further direct causal evidence, the writers argument fails to convince that all teenagers should be required to take the drivers education course.

Secondly, the writer produces no evidence that shows a direct link between the drivers education course at Centerville High School and the prevention of accidents involving teenage drivers. The writer assumes such a causal linkage but delivers nothing other than his or her personal opinion as evidence that the drivers education course helps prevent accidents. Furthermore, the writer states that all students should be required to take the drivers education course. The writer fails to take into consideration students that do not drive, as well as students that may have already taken a drivers education course elsewhere. Even assuming the value of the high schools drivers education course, there will obviously be no reduction in teenagers accidents if the students do not drive in the first place. Additionally, it is doubtful that repeating the drivers education course will result in any further reduction in accidents involving teenagers. For these reasons, the writers argument again falls short of convincing the reader of the value of mandatory high school drivers education.

Finally, the writer states that an effective and mandatory drivers education program sponsored by the high school is the only solution to this serious problem. Again, the writer falsely assumes that the only cause of such accidents is the lack of teenagers drivers education, for which there is no support whatsoever in the argument. A better course of action would be to determine the true cause of such accidents, then tailor a solution to address the specific causes of the problem, rather than imposing a mandatory drivers education program on all students. Perhaps mandatory drivers education for all drivers would be a better solution, but there is no basis present in the argument on which to single out students and their lack of drivers education as the source of the problem of accidents in Centerville.

Cheap Custom Essays on "All students should be required to take the driver's education course at Centerville High School. In the past two years several accidents in and around Centerville have involved teenage drivers. Since a number of parents in Centerville have complained th

In summary, the writers argument looks logical at first glance, but a closer inspection reveals that it is based on faulty logic. There is no evidence presented that a lack of drivers education for students is the cause of the problem in Centerville; therefore there is no basis for forcing all students to take the program. To strengthen the argument, the writer should show a direct correlation between the automobile accidents and a lack of drivers education among Centerville High School students. Without such evidence, the argument is groundless.

hat is love? In spite of all that science and religion have told us, people do not want to understand the true nature of the most potent force in the world. They believe in the Hollywood myth--- physical beauty and poetic passion, two hearts in stardust beating as one; the chase, the capture and the surrender. All that may well be a thrilling part of attraction and courtship; but it is not and never can be love. Love and a physical embrace become almost synonymous in young minds; both create ecstasy. But few young people are taught the possibilities of and need for growth beyond that beautiful excitement.

There will be less disillusion and heartache in marriage when we begin to understand that from the illusions of romance a deep and abiding love may emerge. Love is the passionate and abiding desire on the part of two or more people to produce together conditions under which each can be, and spontaneously express, his real self to produce together an intellectual soil and an emotional climate in which each can flourish, for superior to what either could achieve alone. In a true marriage, man and woman think more of the partnership than they do of themselves. It is an interweaving of interest s and a facing of sacrifice together for the sake of both. It's feeling of security and contentment comes from mutual efforts. In marriage, as in dancing, the happiness does not stem from the way the individual moves, but in the togetherness of the behavior.

The more completely one can express his real self to another person the more deeply he can love. This means that a man can speak honestly to his wife, letting her know what is actually in his mind, without fear of misunderstanding or any form of reprisal. If a man can say, without trepidation "My dear, I can forgive your mother, but I can never forget how she stood in the doorway saying those awful things to me"he may be spontaneously expressing himself. He may decide not to say anything of the kind, in order to spare his wife unhappiness. But if he refrains because he is afraid that she will misunderstand him and take revenge, these two people are not producing together the intellectual and emotional climate in which each can be his real self.

There are many false emotions that may lead us into unhappy marriages. For instance sexual desire aroused by physical beauty or perhaps sheer energy. That is why we need to know the difference between physical attraction and deep affection. Another false emotion is the need of living life vicariously through another person because of inability to be one's self. It may be that the wife was the daughter of a poorly paid minister; hence, she goads her husband on to make more money and so to be like the man she wanted her father to be. Other misleading emotions include the compulsive desire to feel needed; a man's wish for a woman to mother him; a woman's determination not to be an old maid.

Cheap University Papers on The True Nature of Love

We may think we are in love because of the way another person makes us feel, but love is not delight in ME, love is self-realization together in us. Two mutually infatuated people can want each other desperately, without love, and without sensing the emotional insincerity, which consumes them. Neither perceives he is experiencing little more than a cheap reassurance. What seems to be love is but blind delight in being treated as if one were perfection itself.

Self-realization together includes the right of each partner to pursue individual interests. It often takes five years for a young couple to discover that "we do everything together" is sentimentality and not love. Among such couples, if the man likes fishing and the woman does not, they give up fishing. If she likes concerts and he does not, they give up music. Their activities are confined to what both enjoy; in a constricted life " they do everything together" because they fear that individual activity may cause them to drift apart. By yielding to this fear they narrow their lives, invite boredom and may soon be drifting apartdoing even that "together."

Sooner or later the reassurance of complete agreement is gone. Troubled faces confront each other across the breakfast table. By dinnertime they may be angry faces, divided as only emotional distance can divide. Quiet desperation is followed by panic. But two people really in love are not too concerned over disagreement, knowing that mere differences of opinion are not the same thing as loss of emotional unity.

True love is not so blind! It sees faults as well as virtues, unhesitatingly accepting the fact that no one is perfect. Love says, and with honest feeling, "I know that I shall be irked by your inability ever to be on time. I know that you will be irritated by my smoking. I know that differences in our energy and tempo will annoy both of us until we learn how to work them out together. But, despite thee difficulties, we see so much of value in each other that we surely can create together a life far superior to what either of us could achieve alone. What matters is that we each sense and like the kind of person the other is, and want to cherish him for what he really is."

No two human beings can possibly live together in the most intimate emotional relationship known without sometimes frustrating each other. Understanding is needed because where love is blocked it turns to anger and hate. To think that there are no things to be given up for each other is to suppose that love costs nothing. Love is self-discovery and self-fulfillment through healthy growth with and for the other person.

Real love will grow as the years go by. The very experience of loving will lead to the discovery of how to love better. The only thing in the world as strong as love is truth, and there are reasons for believing that as far as marriage is concerned they are different aspects of the same thing. A deep and abiding love is the emotional response to an intellectual recognition of the truth about another person. Love's development, like that of a tree, is not a steady process but an irregular one. The art of love is patience till the spring returns. But what we have really loved can never be lost. Its influence on our personality is always with us, and perhaps even death does not take it away.

It all began the year I graduated high school. Reality kicked in when my older sister said, "Well _____ now that you've completed high school, are you ready to live on your own in the real world". I smiled and nodded a yes, but in reality I knew that I was completely lost on what the "real-world" expected of me. I was a naïve young seventeen year old who was accustomed to having people make my decisions for me. Mom and dad were always there to help support me in everything I did. During my high school years you could say I wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, I'd rather be playing sports than doing any homework. John Nash (158) kept it sweet and simple, "Classes will dull your mind". I found myself asking a lot of questions that year. Where do I go from here? Was college even an option? What about my career, life, and family? My personal thoughts and the questions that I could not answer led me to the voyage that I'm still currently on. Although, now it is a bit different, I'm only halfway around the earth and the greatest thing about this voyage is that it may never end.

One article ("Self-Knowledge is Dangerous", 1) clearly states, "If we could deliberately seize control of our pleasure systems, we could reproduce the pleasure of success without the need for any actual accomplishment. And that would be the end of everything. Life would be very simple if it did not require any work on our part to achieve success in accomplishing goals. However, this is not the case, we must work hard to acquire knowledge which leads to our very own personal success. There comes a price to pay to gain this knowledge, it isn't free nor is it fast and easy. I was willing to sacrifice many things to further my knowledge. I had decided to obtain my bachelors degree in science. This meant more time in the undergraduate libraries and less time playing sports, participating in activities, and going out with friends.

Throughout my initial year at the university I began to appreciate knowledge and I began to understand the theory and reasoning behind the work. I actually found myself enjoying the readings as well as the work that would follow it. By my second year not only was I spending a large portion of my time in class but I also found myself discussing work with my professors during their office hours. Along with the knowledge I gained in my classes I began to have an overall respect towards the professors and the students who shared their knowledge with me. These people were like me; they too had sacrificed their lives (especially those professors) to gain knowledge. To me it was more than school; it was the pursuit and discovery of knowledge and education that brought upon happiness. Richard J. Light (001) interviewed a Harvard student that pointed out, "To make the most out of college and become successful you must meet with the faculty and gain the knowledge needed to pursue your career ambitions".

Upon completion of my final semester I obtained a bachelors of science in science at the age of ___. I had already landed a position as a chemist.

So again I continue my journey to reach higher ends and become a more successful individual. Whether it is financially or for my personal self, I believe education is the key to success. Chris Freyer from Encore Development states, "A skill is there and then dies, never to be heard from again. An MS degree is always on your resume". Through education I can say that I have become a more matured person. I am more patient and understanding than I had ever been before in my life. Rather than speaking all the time I now find myself listening to others and solving problems that I myself once had. We all have to remember that although getting a graduate degree might put more cash in our pockets it's the actual process of and earning that degree which has helped us become who we are today. As I said this journey has yet to end, obtaining my master's degree will bring about more obstacles that I'm willing to overcome.

Unlike many stories which are set during the Second World War, in his novel The English Patient, Michael Ondaatje does not bring the bloody and cruel scenes of war directly to the readers. Instead, he turns to a comparatively peaceful and insular Italian villa in the hills. Four people live in this villa are the main characters in this story. They are Hana, a Canadian nurse, an English patient, whom Hana is taking care of, David Caravaggio, who is an old friend of Hana¡¯s father, and Kip, a Sikh working as a sapper in this area. Their intersectional memories and conversations present a poetic and dream-like novel.

The English Patient displays these four people¡¯s destinies which are forever changed and shattered by the war. In the war, their lives are completely damaged, and they have been taken away so many things family, love, health, face and even name and identity. Each of them is badly hurt either in the body or in the spirit. In this sense, they are all patients suffering from the war and eagerly looking forward to cure.

Hana has lost her father, her lover and the baby she was carrying during the war. Their death brings her such great sorrow that she decides to stay behind with the severely burnt patient when the rest of the medical staff moves on. She is so immune to death that she fears she has lost the capacity to feel. She walks around the villa like an empty shell tending the mysterious patient. She has deep sympathy with the patient and also taking care of him makes her sink deeper into oblivion. The patient is assumed as an Englishman because of his speech and mannerism. Actually he is a Hungarian Count named Almasy. He is badly burnt beyond recognition in a plane crash in the Libyan desert. His has double sufferings. On one hand, he has to stand the physical pains. On the other hand, the reminiscences of his past torture him always, and this suffering is much more difficult for him to bear than the former. The love between Catherine and him compels him to wander on the edge of friendship and betrayal. And also he is involved in the war by this affection. In order to save his lover, he has to bear the charge of being a spy, which almost deprives him of everything. Caravaggio loses both of his thumbs. However, the anxiety in his mind seems to persecute him more often than the pains from his wounds. He is eager to know whether the English patient is the spy whose betrayal makes him lose thumbs. He interrogates the patient time and time again, trying to find out his true identity so that he can relieve his eternal regrets brought by the war. Comparatively speaking, Kip¡¯s pains are more hidden than the others¡¯. As an Indian man serving in the British army, he ¡°straddles two worlds, walking on the fine line between adopting Western customs and losing his own national identity¡±. He is deep in the belief crisis. His brother has great resentment toward the west. Yet his training in Britain makes him a bomb expert and he respects his mentor Lord Suffolk and decides to take the task as a bomb defuser. He seems to lose himself fighting the war in the uniform of his imperial masters. The small villa actually becomes a wartime hospital where the four people are curing themselves and each other. In this villa they are no longer isolated individuals. They are in close relation with each other who also suffers greatly from the cruel war and needs help and cure.

Though each one has his own trauma, they are all trying to show and cure their sufferings. They try to help each other to walk out of the shadows brought by the war. In the small villa, they are all walking on the road of salvation. Hana carefully tends the English patient, reading to him, helping him to get out of the nightmare of his past. As a matter of fact, Almasy¡¯s romance encourages Hana at the same time. Through his love story, Hana gets back her feelings and emotions. She no longer immerses herself in deep sorrows but faces the real life bravely. The love affair between her and Kip is also a course of salvation. In the end, her sadness and sorrow have gone away. After the patient¡¯s death, she finishes her task and steps toward a new life. Almasy¡¯s recollection gradually unravels Caravaggio¡¯s doubts and suspicions. His betrayal during the urgency is not out of deliberation but appears to be reasonable and pitiable. Kip¡¯s problem is more complex than the others¡¯. He belongs to two countries yet remains a permanent wanderer. The news that the atomic bombs have been dropped in Japan disillusions him. He realized that he has risked his life for the west and now they betray him and skin color and Indian origins make him a perpetual outsider. Just as what he says in the last chapter of the novel ¡°When you start bombing the brown races of the world, youre an Englishman.¡± Caravaggio finds himself agreeing with Kip that they would never have dropped such a bomb on a white nation. As a result, Kip leaves Hana, Caravaggio and the patient, leaving the world which only belongs to them three. He is no longer their guard. He returns to his native land and later becomes a doctor, living happily with his family.

Order custom research paper on the english patient Ondaatje reveals a world of individuals in spiritual crisis and a process of pursuing salvation. During the war, they are injured and trying to cure their trauma and rebuild their own spiritual habitat. Though it¡¯s a novel without any fighting hero and intense battle scenes in the novel, The English Patient can still be seen as an epic about the Second World War.

CHIPSET

HDD DRIVE

CD-ROM DRIVE

CLOCK

RAM

.) Develop your description of a simple data processing operation.

In order to help explaining how the Memory and CPU are central to all PC functions let us first look briefly at what each one of these items does.

The CPU or Central Processing Unit of a PC is not generally referred to a as a CPU anymore. It is more common to hear them referred to as Processors, but even more common to hear them called Microprocessors.

A Microprocessor is the heart of a PC. Compared to a car it would be the engine, compared to the human body, the brain. All functions that are performed by the PC from the moment it is switched on to the moment it is switched off are in one way or another affected by the Microprocessor.

Microprocessors perform arithmetic and logic tasks such as adding and subtracting.. To do this they makes use of small number holding areas called Registers. These tasks are performed based on what Instructions the Microprocessor has received.

The MEMORY, or RAM (Random Access Memory), is a place your PC can store information that your Microprocessor can access quicly and easily. When you turn your PC on, the operating system and all the programs that you are using are loaded into the RAM so that they can be accessed faster than if they were being read from the Hard Disk. For a program to be stored in the RAM, you must have enough RAM for it to fit. Therefore, machines with more RAM are generally speaking able to hold more information in their temporary memory, and therefore can store more data in their RAM and can access it quicker than a machine with less RAM.

However, whilst the RAM is much faster to read and write to than the other types of storage on your PC (Hard Drive, CD-Rom etc), it is only temporary. When you turn your PC off any information that is stored in the RAM will be lost.

From what we have discussed so far we can see that the Microprocessor and RAM are integral to the running of a PC. Without either one of these two things a PC simply will not function.

All actions on a PC can be referred to as Instructions, and it is the Microprocessor that performs these instructions. Without a Microprocessor there would be nothing to perform these instructions. RAM is equally important. It stores the operating system on it once you have turned your PC on. For this reason alone RAM is essential but its influence is regularly felt whilst using a PC.

Now lets take a look at a basic Open command taking into account all that we have discussed above.

When we click on Open, when creating a new Word document for example, the Microprocessor and RAM have already been used for many many things. Firstly, once the power switch is pressed on a PC, the CPU loads the first instruction in the BIOS. It performs all of these functions sequentially and then loads the operating system. All of these instructions are loaded into the RAM of the PC so they may be accessed more efficiently. Once Open is selected, an instruction is sent to the Microprocessor. This process is speed up due to both the operating system and the Word Processing software being loaded into the RAM. This instruction is then performed by the Microprocessor sequentially.

When we consider that RAM is essentially the workspace that a computer uses to perform its functions, and that the Microprocessor is the brain of these functions, we can clearly see that both of these items are central to the running of a PC.

.) Expand on the CPU's operation by describing its components and their function during an instruction cycle

Firstly we should describe an instruction cycle An instruction cycle is the period of time taken to Fetch an instruction and then Execute it. An Instruction Cycle typically has 4 stages. First we have 1.) Fetch. Followed by .) Decode. Then .) Execute and finally 4.) Store. Sections 1 and are the Fetch Stage, whilst and 4 are the Execute stage.

The Microprocessor consists of basic components. Firstly The ALU and the REGISTERS. These items are all governed by the 4rd component, the CONTROL.

We have already discussed the purpose of the Registers above, they are temporary storage areas that are used to provide a place for passing data from instruction to the next.

The ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) is the part of the Microprocessor that performs all Arithmetic and Logic requests. The ALU takes data as inputs and a code from the Control. The code tells the ALU which operation to perform.

The CONTROL extracts instructions from the RAM and decodes them. Once they are decoded it then executes the instruction.

Now we have described these components, lets take a look at what the CPU is doing during an Instruction (or Machine) Cycle.

Firstly the Microprocessor must Fetch the information. The Fetch process places the address of the next instruction to execute in the Address Bus. These are the connections between the CPU and RAM that carry the address from which the CPU wishes to write to or from. It then adds the necessary information to the Instruction Register.

The Decode cycle uses the information stored in the Instruction Register to determine which Gates to open, and then which functions the ALU will perform.

The Execute cycle, as the name suggests, executes the instructions that have been received so far.

The Store cycle is the result of the instruction being written to a destination. This can be either a Hard Drive or a Register.

Donnes iconoclastic aubade The Sunne Rising, is one of the greatest works produced by this poet and stands as a benchmark for the quality of works created by the well known metaphysical poets of his era. An understanding of the metaphysical standpoint Donne takes in his writings is essential to grasp the themes and ideas conveyed through his poems. Further, the tone mood and structure are crucial techniques Donne utilises to create a message powerful in its delivery and effective in its aim. Donnes fascination with Latin poetry confirms that this ode is based on a similar work by Ovid entitled Amores 1.1, in which entirely similar themes are conveyed to the reader. The poem seems to immerse the reader into a transmuted reality, in that the love of the narrator is blind to that that is greater than himself the sun. This purely individualistic symbol creates an existential feel to Donnes motives. Busy old fool, unruly sun,..., The angry tone in the opening line creates the conceit of the poem, ie, the outstanding message that Donne attempts to convey through this startling opening. The vowel sounds of fool and unruly accents the strongly angry tone used. The tone of the first few lines is key in setting the sun in its place relative to the lovers. The rhetorical question in the second and third lines Why dost thou thus, Through windows, and through curtains call on us? Personifies the sun and allows the lover to question it thus. The tone creates a symbolic message; the blind love experienced by the narrator is the essence of ignorance. This in turn creates irony, as the sun is, as opposed to love, the essence of time and seasons. The selfishness of the lover is again shown as he insults the sun Saucy pedantic wretch.., The insulting tone adds to the readers understanding of the hindrance the sun places on the life of the lover. The next few lines accumulate various reasons why the sun should not bother the likes of a lover go chide late school boys and sour prentices.. These orders the lover rhetorically gives to the sun in turn allows him to place himself above those whom he mentions. The array of objects mentioned ants, huntsmen, boys and prentices creates an tone of arrogance. This also adds to the conceit and accents his ignorance of the vastness of nature. In the final two lines of this first stanza the lover attempts to justify these accusations Love, all alike, no season knows nor clime, Nor hours, days, months, which are the rags of time. Here, we see again the irrational rapture of the lover easily belittle such great forces. This proves a vain attempt to justify his views as we learn in the second stanza that without the light provided by the sun the lover will not be able view his lover.

We see a change in tone in the second stanza. A pattern forms in the first four lines; in which irony is created in the end Thy beams, so reverend and strong Why shouldst thou think? I could eclipse and cloud them with a wink, But that I would not lose her sight so long; Whether or not the lover realises it, the presence of the sun allows for him to keep sight of his lover, thus the power of his eclipse is entirely ironic, as it would defeat the purpose of his motives. The last few lines of this stanza finish with a rhyming couplet, and summate his boastful argument in saying that All here in one bed lay. He means that all the wealth and greatness of the earth the sun sawst are equalled in the power of his love and the greatness of his lover. The mention of spice and mine refers to the luxuries that in Donnes time came from the great subcontinents or thIndias (spice may add a sexual element). This allusion to knowledge again creates an arrogant tone the lover juxtaposes those great material objects against the sun.

Buy cheap John Donne's The Sunne Rising term paper

In the final stanza the lovers tone of superiority and unwavering praise continues. Shes all states, and all princes, I, Nothing else is. Here the vanity of his appraisals is seen when he places even himself under the lover he so adores it becomes clear that his speech is solely for his own personal gain. All honours mimic, all wealth alchemy. This allusion to alchemy is one of Donnes poetic fascinations. He likens life outside love to the bizarre belief that one could change base metals in to precious metals such as gold. This theory was obviously proven false by the time Donne had written this poem and thus again we see the dismissal of the worlds people, adding to the egoistical and arrogant tone already seen. In the last four lines of the poem the attitude of the lover changes toward the sun Thine age asks ease,...Shine here to us, The lover has finally combined the two contradictory elements in his mind, the sun and his lover. The rhyming couplet at the finish still leaves a taste of arrogance in the readers mouth yet, some satisfaction seems to be drawn in the conclusion ...and thou art everywhere; The lover notes that within the small confines of his sphere all that the sun praises and lights up exists.

The structure of the poem (as critics have the knowledge of everything) is relevant to the message of the poem. The rhyme scheme and line formation create the feel when reading that there exists two sides of the poem. The first is either criticism or justification of this criticism, these lines are shortest and contain eight to ten syllables, this effect creates the dismissive mood and tone that assist Donne in his conceit against the sun. The second side is that of either praise, or justification of that praise. These lines are noticeably longer than the first type and contain either ten or eleven syllables. The lover uses these longer lines to make his better argumentative points against the sun and to nicely finalise each stanza with a rhyming couplet. The final rhyming couplet is thus significant as it combines the two sides of the argument to unite the lover and the sun within these walls he finds himself.

In conclusion, The Sunne Rising proves to be an insightful poem, typical of Donnes style and technique, which teaches the reader and seemingly the narrator a lesson about love, and the power it has. Donnes use of the conceit with the sun as opposed to love is a brilliant technique aided by the use of tone and structure, creating a wholly satisfying read. The separation and eventual combination of these two elements also assists to raise the points covered and raised by Donne.

There are stories and stories...There are songs, also, that are taught. Some are whimsical. Some are very intense. Some are documentary...Everything I have known is through teachings, by word of mouth, either by song or legend. (Terrance Honvantewa.). This statement was made by a Hopi Native American regarding his education. Having an education is an essential part of being successful in the world today, but very few people actually take the time to learn what the word education really means. Although people have a clear understanding of ignorance, the word education is often misinterpreted.

Before stating an in-depth discussion of the word education, it is important to look at a formal definition. Websters dictionary says that education is, 1a the action or process of educating or being educated; also a stage of such a process b the knowledge and development resulting from an educational process a man of little educationthe field of study that deals manly with methods of teaching and learning in schools.

The formal definition of education is exactly what most people would think of as an accurate description of the word. But the above definition leaves out so many aspects of education. Education does not only occur is schools, but is a life-long process. The formal definition also fails to tell us that education occurs in many different ways, through first-hand experiences that are different for each person. If a person who had no knowledge of the word education used the dictionary as their source, they could easily misunderstand what education is.

Help with essay on education

A good way to learn more about the definition of a word is to examine its origin. In the book, Take Our Word for It, Educate literally means lead out. The word comes from the past

participle of Latin educare bring up, rear and educate. It was related to the Latin educere lead out (source of English educe), a compound verb formed from the prefix ex- out and ducere lead (source of English duct, duke, and a whole host of derivatives such as deduce and seduce). Education, which first appears in the 16th century, was formed by the edition of the suffix -ion to educate, and -ion comes from Latin -ionem, a suffix forming nouns of condition and action. (Tiere). It is interesting to see that the word education does not come from words that mean to be told to do something, but rather, are related to words that mean to lead and to figure out, or deduce. This gives us a good indication of how people learn most successfully, and that is through experience. Education is not only seen in a teacher/student scenario.

Another good way to understand the meaning of a word is to understand what the word is not. Education is not the process of being told what to do. If teachers sat around telling their students what to do, the students would learn very little. A good example of teachers showing instead of telling students what to do is field trips. Students, especially younger students, retain more information if they have a first-hand memory of a topic, and not just have read about it in a book. Another good example of showing students in education is science labs. It is essential, especially in the subject of science, to actually see how things work. It is difficult for most people to picture complicated scientific processes in their head. A person would never understand exactly what a kidney, or a heart looked like, from a drawing or picture. That is why it is important to do dissections in high school and college. The band Live has a lyric in one of their songs that says, The greatest of teachers wont hesitate, to leave you there by yourself chained to die. This example may be a bit extreme, but it does illistrate a good point. The greatest teachers do not bail their students out at the smallest hint of struggle. If they did, their students would never learn to do anything on their own, and would always reliey on other people. Education is not based on unchangeable information. A student should have the right to question a teachers opinion, because all teachers were students at one point. Sometimes a student can bring a fresh perspective to a subject that the teacher would not have seen on their own. Our knowledge of the world is always changing and expanding. We as human beings need to bounce ideas off of each other to learn more about ourselves and our surroundings.

We should also examine some Synonyms to the word education. In Websters Thesaurus it says, Text The act or process of educating devoted herself to the education of illiterate adults

Synonyms instruction, schooling, teaching, training, tuition, tutelage.

Related word coaching, pedagogy, tutorage, tutoring, tutorship, direction, guidance.

. The product or result of being educated obtained his education in local schools and in college

Synonyms erudition, knowledge, learning, scholarship, science.

Related word culture, edification, enlightenment, learnedness, literacy.

Contrasted words ignorance, illiteracy. So we learn from the synonyms that education is not just a process, but a result as well. It is important to take notice that if a teacher does everything for a student, then the result, the students education, is damaged in a way. The students educatio is not all that it could be. It is interesting to see that the word tuition is among the synonyms of the word education. What exactly is the price of an education. Not only does an education require a great deal of money, but it also requires a lot of determination and dedication. Those who actually make it as high as they can in their education, that is, receive a PhD, should have the feeling of climbing Mt. Everest. They stand proud at the top of the mountain and look down at the whole world. It is true that the whole world is accessible for a person with an education.

Thus it can be seen that the word education can mean many things. It is an important word in every language, country, and part of the world. People with an education are respected. They save lives, and change the world for the better or for worse. So while ignorance still exists throughout the world, having an education is what people desire.

Please note that this sample paper on education is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on education, we are here to assist you. Your persuasive essay on education will be written from scratch, so you do not have to worry about its originality.

Langston Hughes is considered one of the leading voices in the Harlem Renaissance ("Langston Huges"). He wrote many poems. Hughes had a strong sense of racial pride ("Writers and Artist Langston Hughes"). Hughes writes about black society and the hardships they went through. These views were supported in two of his poems, "Cross," and "Ballad of the Landlord." Formalistically speaking the poem, "Cross," lets the reader imagine or decide what the poem symbolizes or what the words mean. Sociologically in the poem, "Ballad of the Landlord," I can see an attempt by Hughes to demonstrate the problem of segregation around the 10s.

I think the title, "Cross" suggests the burden the narrator holds with being of mixed race. For example, Christ holding the burden of dying for our sins on the cross, compared to the narrator holding a burden of being mixed. The title comes from the last line, "I wonder where I'm gonna die, Being neither white nor black." The word cross is never used in the actual poem, which leaves the reader to decide the purpose for the title. For example, the title leaves the narrator up to his/her own imagination( Taylor ).

The poem consists of the narrator apologizing for cursing his mother and father. Then he goes on to say that his Dad died well off and his mother died poor. This means they were not married and he didn't grow up in a conventional setting. Also the narrator tells the reader his mother is white and his father is black. Concluding from the time the poem was written, I think the father was a slave owner and the mother was one of his slaves. I conclude that the father may have raped the mother.

Since the speaker is neither white nor black, he finds himself confused at the end of the poem by saying, "I wonder where I'm gonna die." He mentions his mom died in a shack and his father died in big house. The speaker thinks since his father is white he got to die in the nice house and since his mother is black she had to die in a shack. However, he is neither, which makes him confused about his destiny. Or maybe the question is, how will he be treated, as a white or black? For example, the mother may have been beat because of her color and lack of power. Hughes emphasizes African culture and the belief of renewal should come from an understanding of African roots ("Langston Hughes").

"Ballad of the Landlord," emphasizes the way Langston Hughes sees the relationships between blacks and whites (Taylor, 1). Hughes moved around a lot, from home to home and around the world. After Hughes travels the world, he received his bachelor's degree, and was considered poet of the generation. His work dealt with the continuing fight for equality. For example, "Ballad of the Land Lords," talks about hardships and injustices of black life in a racist society (Taylor, 1-).

This poem was also written during the 140s, which explains the uncomfortable social separation of blacks and whites and also the social separation between the wealthy and poor. Whites had more power at this time. It was a time when society could not write in other than segregation (Issues of Race in the 10s, 1). The poem mentions the blacks having to rent from the whites, which resembles the poorness of blacks at that time. Then the landlord easily had the black man thrown in jail for complaining. Of course the black man had no power or say once that police got there. This is an example of the wealth and power in a white man in the 140s.

Hughes writes about the social disrespect towards blacks in the 140s. The landlord of the poem was very disrespectful towards his tenant. Hughes symbolizes his views of the treatments of blacks through writing, "Ballad of the Landlord." Blacks were forced to stick up for themselves. For example, the black man in the poem says, "………Well, that's Ten Bucks more'n I'll pay you, Till you fix this house up new." However no matter the situation, most the time blacks had no power, which was proven in the conclusion, with the black man going to jail.

The poem, " Cross" and "Ballad of the Landlord," both experience the racial actions, and segregation. The poems leave the reader to decide the underlining meaning. "Cross" makes the readers use his/her imagination to what will happen next and "Ballad of the Landlord" leaves the reader wondering what the underlying meaning should be. The poems were written around the same time period, which is one reason for part of the themes to be about the separation of blacks and whites and the difference in power of the each race holds.

The differences of the two poems are the approach to the underlying meaning and the type of story. In the poem, "Cross," Hughes describes characters, and then leaves the reader to decide the answer or ending to the narrator's life. The poem also emphasizes the importance of a background of a person than problems of segregation. In "Ballad of the Landlord," Hughes tells a short story. He explains a tenant's frustration to a drunk and disrespectful landlord. Though the tenant happens to be black and ends up in jail. This poem emphasizes more of the social problem of segregation and power.

I believe Hughes really wants to describe the racism problem of his time or life. I think Hughes explained more broadly the issue of race in his poem, "Ballad of the Landlord." The poem left me with anger and frustration inside, like I was the black man. I felt as though I could continue the power of equality. However, in the poem, "Cross," I was confused on what exactly Hughes was trying to describe, though the question also left me wondering about the possibilities. "Cross" imposed a little more imagination of the reader, which can be difficult for the reader.

Hughes promoted equality, condemned racism and injustice, and celebrated African American culture, humor, and spirituality in his poems ("Writers and Artists Langston Hughes"). Formalistically and sociologically the poems, "Cross" and "Ballad of the Landlords," helped promote the view of relationships and racism. Hughes lived in racism and disrespect and wrote about the issue.

Welfare is a public assistance program that provides at least a minimum amount of economic security to people whose incomes are insufficient to maintain an adequate standard of living. These programs generally include such benefits as financial aid to individuals, subsidized medical care, and stamps that are used to purchase food. The modern U.S. welfare system dates back to the Great Depression of the 10's. During the worst parts of the Depression, about one-fourth of the labor force was without work. More than two-thirds of all households would have been considered poor by todays standards. With a majority of the capable adult population experiencing severe financial misfortune, many Americans turned to the government for answers. In response, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt led a social and economic reform movement attacking the Depression. Part of his newly enacted "New Deal" program was the Social Security Act, enacted by Congress in 15. This act and established a number of social welfare programs, each designed to provide support for different segments of the population. Recently Roosevelt's Social Welfare Program has become a topic of heated debate. Welfare has come a long way since Roosevelt, it was once a system that help those in need until they could get back on their feet, now welfare has turned into a system that feeds money to a group of people that have become to lazy to find work. Talk of replacing the old system with a welfare program that will emphasize putting welfare recipients to work has become very frequent. More and more stated are now beginning to adopt a "welfare-to-work" program, leaving other states to simply ponder about the idea of "taking people off the system." Those in favor of welfare reform argue that a welfare-to-work program will cut the amount of people on welfare causing a surplus of funds. These people base their idea on the overwhelming success of those states who have already adopted such a program. Nationwide, welfare caseloads have declined significantly since the passage of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 16. In the few months since the bill went into effect the amount of welfare caseloads are down by approximately million. Figures also show that Alabama reduced its welfare enrollment by 48%, and Indiana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Tennessee reduced theirs by 4%. In Wisconsin welfare was reduced by 58% and Wyoming's cases dropped an amazing 7% (Source Dept. of Health and Human Services). According to the experts these successful states have a on main element in common, "a serious effort to move welfare recipients into jobs." In addition, welfare reform is saving both the state and federal governments hundreds of millions of dollars, while giving thousands of Americans who formerly received government handouts a sense of self-worth. Opponents of the bill have a much different view, they believe that the new program will have a negative effect on society and the economy. Labor unions, and others who are against the legislation, are concerned that welfare recipients, often available at lower rates, will displace current workers. Businesses pressured by the federal government to handle their share if the burden in ending welfare as we know it, must struggle with the uncertainty of employing workers who for years were unemployed. Critics of the bills also believe that the legislation goes too far by cutting too much from welfare spending and harming poor children. They contend that the unemployed poor need training in order to get a job, and that a welfare-to-work program including training will cost more money not less. After assessing both side of the issue it is my sincere belief that a nationwide welfare-to-work program would have a positive effect on American society. This sort of program would rid the nation of the wide array of indolent people who live their life off governmental funds, and produce a remainder of workers in need of jobs. It is obvious from the many statistics that welfare-to-work has been a success in decreasing the caseloads of welfare, and in adding to the surplus of funds for state and federal governments, that could be used for beneficial changes such as improvements in roadways. Therefore I think that this program should be adopted by all fifty states. Bibliography Berkowitz, Edward D. America's Welfare State From Roosevelt to Regan. The American Moment Series. The era of the 1st Joker's Card album, Carnival of Carnage 1 1

In October of 1, Insane Clown Posse's first LP, Carnival of Carnage, began the series of six Joker's Card albums that took ten years to complete. Full of violently slapstick lyrics of vigilante-style revenge against those who perpetrate evil in the world, Carnival of Carnage fully established ICP's look and musical style. With live shows also came new innovations, namely their trademark use of Faygo soda, which the group began dousing crowds with.

Working closely with their self-owned label, Psychopathic Records, ICP was quickly becoming a cult sensation in Detroit. Many were receiving the message locally, but it was time to expand into the national scene.

Help with essay on what we obsess over

The era of the nd Joker's Card album, The Ringmaster 14 15

14 saw the release of the second Joker's Card album, Ringmaster. Fans were more than ready, and record sales reflected this. Strong sales caught the attention of local Detroit music leaders, and helped establish ICP as a group that was on the rise. By now, ICP had fully converted to professional musicians backed by a small but growing Psychopathic Records team. The face paint, the Faygo throwing, and the hard core, carnival-inspired musical style were quickly becoming the group's unmistakable trademark.

A local hit radio single lead to growing recognition in Detroit and throughout the Midwest. Insane Clown Posse was entering the radar of national labels. Meanwhile, Psychopathic Records was itself growing into an established company, branching out into peripheral ICP merchandising as well.

The era of the rd Joker's Card album, The Riddle Box 15 16

With over 100,000 records sold in the Midwest, Insane Clown Posse and Psychopathic Records looked towards the large record labels to further promote the group and its message. They signed with New York based Jive Records, who released The Riddle Box, the third Joker's Card album, in 15. While Psychopathic Records promoted the album in Detroit, Dallas, and elsewhere, Jive did relatively little. Psychopathic Records sent out street teams, covering the country coast to coast, city by city, without the benefit of radio support. From the ground up, these teams of vans laid the foundation of what would later become an underground nation of fans, called Juggalos.

Despite the lack of mainstream support, this was an exciting time in the lives and careers of Insane Clown Posse and the people behind Psychopathic Records. Two videos for a hit single were shot. ICP's cult following was growing into a nation-wide phenomenon, as the band broke ground in the underground.

The era of the 4th Joker's Card album, The Great Milenko 17 18

As their underground popularity grew, other records labels began to take interest in Insane Clown Posse. Moving from Jive, ICP signed a million-dollar contract with Disney's Hollywood Records to release the fourth Joker's Card album, The Great Milenko, in 17. In a catastrophe turned blessing, it was pulled from the shelves six hours after dropping because of pressure from The Southern Baptist Federation.

Far from silencing ICP, this action had the opposite effect, pole-vaulting the wicked clown duo into a media frenzy, feeding on the "bad" publicity. This sparked a bidding war between major labels, bringing ICP and The Great Milenko (with new tracks and fully uncensored) to Polygram-owned Island Records. The Island team had what Psychopathic Records and ICP were looking for all along the heart and dedication needed to truly promote their album, their musical style, and their message. The Great Milenko went on to be certified platinum, sound scanning 1.4 million, and is currently a record holder for one of the longest running albums in Billboard Top 00 history.

The Great Milenko's success brought Insane Clown Posse to a new level. Not only were they reaching a nation-wide audience, but they began touring in Europe, where they met unexpected acceptance. Aside from touring, Violent J and Shaggy themselves delved into the world of wrestling, where they joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), then moved to World Championship Wrestling (WCW).

The era of the 5th Joker's Card album, The Amazing Jeckel Brothers 1 001

Riding a tidal wave of publicity and fan support, Insane Clown Posse prepared to release their fifth Joker's Card album in June 1. The Amazing Jeckel Brothers debuted at #4 on the Billboard Charts, just behind The Backstreet Boys. Considering the lack of radio/MTV play and media support, this was a major achievement, and one that did not go unnoticed in the music industry. The Amazing Jeckel Brothers was quickly certified platinum.

1 and 000 saw Insane Clown Posse touring throughout the county, both in larger arenas, including an appearance at Woodstock Music Festival, and covering lesser markets at small venues. ICP also appeared on the cover of several magazines, including Alternative Press, with that issue going on to break all AP sales records. They released a successful comic book series through Chaos! Comics. ICP even started an independent wrestling promotion called Juggalo Championship Wrestling (JCW), which went on to become the second highest grossing promotion in the U.S.

As the turn of the millennium approached, Insane Clown Posse's vision only became larger and clearer. Juggling music and wrestling, ICP also advanced their film interests. They released a full-length motion picture called Big Money Hustlas, featuring appearances by such notables as Rudy Ray Moore (Dolomite), The Jerky Boys, Harland Williams, WWF's Mankind, Fred "Rerun" Barry, The Misfits, etc.

Insane Clown Posse and Psychopathic Records made significant and groundbreaking expansions during this time, all setting the stage for the long-awaited sixth and final Joker's Card album. Only with such a far-reaching and diverse foundation, could the sixth and final Joker's Card become what it had always been envisioned and planned to be. The only ones more excited at the start of this new ear than the masses of Juggalos are Insane Clown Posse themselves and the people behind them at Psychopathic Records. Ten years of tireless dedication is coming to a head, right now.

A little later in the day, Dr. Smith called Georges wife and said, Your husbands test results were fine, but he said something strange that has been bugging me. He claims that God turns the light on and off for him when uses the bathroom at night. Thelma exclaimed, That old fool! Hes been peeing in the refrigerator again!

The Clever Lawyer

A lawyer defending a man accused of burglary tried this creative defenseMy client merely inserted his arm into the window and removed a few trifling articles. His arm is not himself, and I fail to see how you can punish the whole individual for an offense committed by his limb.Well put, the judge replied. Using your logic, I sentence the defendants arm to one years imprisonment. He can accompany it or not, as he chooses. The defendant smiled. And, with his lawyers assistance, he detached his artificial limb, laid it on the bench and walked out.

Biting

A man was in a bar all day and he had to use the bathroom. He was in there for a while, yelling, so the barmaid reluctantly went to the bathroom to check on him. Sir, what are you yelling about? Youre scaring the customers. Every time I try to flush the toilet something keeps biting my balls! Sir, please get off the mop bucket.

A couple was dressed and ready to go out for the evening. They turned on a night light, turned the answering machine on the phone line, covered their pet parakeet and put the cat in the backyard.

They phoned the local taxi company and requested a taxi. The taxi arrived and the couple opened the front door to leave their house. The cat they had put out into the yard scoots back into the house.

They dont want the cat shut in the house because she always tries to eat the bird. The wife goes out to the taxi while the husband goes inside to get the cat. The cat runs upstairs, the man in hot pursuit.

A few minutes later, the husband gets into the taxi.

Sorry I took so long, he says, as they drive away.

Improving Situations for Women

Since the birth of the United States women have been discriminated against. Men looked upon them as someone to take care of the household chores, to take care of children, and to provide dinner after a long day of work. Obviously this type of stuff still goes on today with women, but not as bad as it was in colonial times or even if you go as far back as the 100's. Now of days, in some situations, household roles have switched. Women have taken on careers and men stay home and play mom. In other situations, the most common situation were both male and female share the household chores, the care of their offspring, and taken turns making dinner as both manage a career. This type of scenario happens because that's how families survives financially. Careers are no the only thing women have been able to do. They have also been able to play sports, and even vote. Women are not exactly equal to men but things have gotten better for them. It has taken them along time, but they have came so far.

It took almost 70 years for women to be able to vote. For women to able to vote, they started a faction called the women's suffrage movement. It started in 1848 when two women by the names of Julia Ward Howe and Lucy Stone when they started The American Woman Suffrage Association. Not only did this group go cross country to help women, they also helped the black movement with the 15th amendment. They as well aloud men to join the association. These two women were not the only women who were starting women suffrage movements, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott and Susan B. Anthony started the National Woman Suffrage Association. In this particular group did not aloud men and did not support the black movement. Both groups constantly disagreed with each other until finally they both merged into one group in 180 under the leadership of Anna Howard Shaw and Carrie Chapman Catt. The also merged the name to The National American Woman Suffrage Association (NASWA).

As the years went on women seem shy away from the matter of voting to other things like health care, prison reform, and child labor movements. Between the years of 11 and 115, massive women marches bring back the focus of a woman's right to vote. The NAWSA merged even more groups to their organization. Woman like Mabel Vernon and Sarah Brad Field travel all over the country, getting signatures on a petition to present to the government. Finally after almost seven decades, the 1th amendment was passed on August 6, 10, which gave the right for woman to vote. Now of days it is important for woman to have the privilege to vote. They can vote on other issues besides presidential, governor or mayoral elections. They can vote on things that might hit the heart more like abortion and contraception.

Since the days of World War I, women became more athletic in sports like basketball, volleyball, and baseball. Since women were playing the sports, women's sports did not have enough recognition, respect, and funding in high schools and colleges. Congress passed an amendment in 17 called the educational amendment. Within that amendment there is a part called title IX, which states " it prohibits discrimination against girls and women in federally-funded education, including athletic programs." Because of title IX it has improved women's equality in all areas. More women receive athletic scholarships, which gives a woman a better chance at a higher education. Many woman who have made it to the Olympics give tribute to title IX, because of the fact if they did not have it they would probably would not be the athletes that they are today. Another outcome of title IX is the wages of coaches involved in women sports have increased.

Passing the amendment was great victory for the women's rights but it was enforced poorly at first. There was barely any controversy to pass the amendment, yet the NCAA and administrators from high schools protested would undergo financial stress because girl's sports had to be equally funded. During the administrations of presidents Reagan and Bush, enforcing Title IX stopped. To add the final nail into the coffin, in the case of Grove City v. Bell the U.S. Supreme court ruled that title IX did not apply to the entire educational institutions. It only applied to those institutions that were federally funded. Although the women did not back down. Four years after the Supreme Court decision, Congress passed the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 188, which states "This act nullifies the effects of the Grove City ruling by outlawing sex discrimination throughout the entire educational institution if any part of the institution received federal funding." Still, after the Civil rights Restoration Act of 188 was passed, title IX was not heavily enforced. Though, because of the Civil Rights Restoration Act, women took the law into their own hands. Many of lawsuits have been filed against colleges and high schools in order to force their campus to equality of women. Sanya Tyler, a woman's head basketball coach of Howard University, filed a lawsuit in 1 for sex discrimination. She claimed that the men's head basketball coach made more than she did. She won the lawsuit and was awarded .4 million dollars. Just like the right to vote women have come long way to have equal funding for sports.

Presently, more and more women are taking on major careers. They are our lawyers, politicians, judges, and our doctors. Although women are not paid equally as men are. Women everywhere are looking up at a glass ceiling. The term glass ceiling is means that women can see what kind of pay or positions that men have and that they would like to have but can not achieve it. Women only make seventy-three dollars to every dollar men make in full-time positions. Not only to women get paid less, but they get paid less for doing the same amount of work that men do. If women's wages were equal to the men's wages might actually work out for men. Like it was mentioned earlier, both husband and wife both take on careers to survive in the extremely expensive world, if wages were equal, families it would gain two hundred billion dollars. Although about 100 years ago women did not have careers. They have come long way in the job force but still major improvements are needed.

There are places that need improvement but women are getting closer and closer to equality. There are still pretty powerful women organizations out there like the NOW, National Organization for Women. In conclusion, discrimination against women has gotten better

Customer Service

Certain companies, businesss and corporations seem to have unlimited success and tremendous financial gain. This is due to several reasons some of which are the companies vision, the way the train their staff, and because of the companies management philosophy. In this report I am going to show how four companies (Disney entertainment, Stew Leonards dairy, Apple computers and M) made their businesss so successful and literally built empires in their respective niches. I am also going to discuss how the philosophies and beliefs practised by these companies can be used to help me in both my schooling and my career in the golf industry.

The first thing that I will discuss will be how the beliefs practised by the companies can help in my approach to school, and in return make me a more successful student. The first company that I will look at is M innovation, this company is constantly stressing the idea to its staff members that they use their free time to work on alternative projects and to not waste time. This lesson is imperative to being successful in college, if a student doesnt waste his free time and uses his free time pockets effectively then he/she can get a tremendous amount of work done with very little stress. Another benefit shown in this video was the companies management philosophy, for this example I will use Stew Leonards dairy. At this particular store they believe so heavily in the idea that customers know what they want and that the store should listen to what the customers have to say that they actually hold discussion groups with several customers once a month so they better learn how to improve different aspects of their store. This is easily related to the way a student should approach school. I have always believed in the belief that having an open line of communication with the faculty will make me a better student. If you listen to the teachers comments and opinions as Stew Leonards Dairy does with their customers then you can get their feedback and in return learn how to improve as a student. Another question raised was what are the strengths of the company. For this question I am going to use the example of Apple Computers and how they stress innovation and individuality. At Apple, on the inside of every one of their computers is the signatures of the team involved in the production of the computers because Apple believes that doing your best as an individual and not simply relying on your team is the key to success. This is similar to the way I approach school as to be successful as a student you must be independent and be able to stand up for your beliefs, or youre reports and essays are going to come across as boring because it seems as if you have no opinion, and this will in return hurt your chances of getting a good mark, and if you dont take pride in your individual work then that will come across as well.

The last question I will relate is the companies vision, for this I will use the example of Disney entertainment. The entire vision of Disney is to make its customers happy and I believe that to do well in school you have to be happy with your work and never settle with not your best work and take extreme pride in everything you do in school.

The last idea that I am going to discuss in this report is to take some of the ideas that these companies stress and relate them to how I can use them to have a successful career in the golf industry. The first idea is that I am going to use is the strengths of the Disney corporation. The key strength that makes Disney so powerful and successful is how well they train their employees, and how they hire people who share the beliefs of the company and are only their to do their best and make Disney better. This is very easily related to my career in the golf industry, I intend on either becoming a head professional at a golf course or owning my own independent golf retail store, and I believe the most important decision you can make in either of those positions is to hire a great staff and do your best to train them well so they are well adapted for what their job entails. The next question I will use is the values imparted on the staff, for this question I will use the example of Stew Leonards dairy. At this store the only real value imparted on the staff is to be customer friendly and do what ever you can to make the customer happy and make them want to come back. This is very important at either a golf course or a retail golf shop as you must impart the value of customer relations on your staff because mad or unsatisfied customers will not return to your store. The third question I will answer is what are the strengths of the company, for this I will use the example of M. The main strength that I noticed of M is that they reward their employees when they earn it, which in return makes them happy and increases their productivity. As an owner of a golf store or as a head pro at a course I believe that keeping your employees is imperative to being successful and the best way to keep your employees happy is to reward them when they deserve it. The last question I will use to relate these businesss to how I plan on being successful in the golf industry is explain the companies management philosophy, and for this I will use the example Stew Leonards Dairy. The management philosophy of this store is to make the customer happy, give them what they want and make them want to come back. This is a huge belief of mine that is crucial to the success of a person in the golf industry. This particular industry is all about customer relations as most of the customers out their become very loyal to either a golf course or a retail store so you want to be the company that keeps all its customers coming back.

In closing, I believe that this video In Search Of Excellence is a tremendous tool for companies who are looking for an edge in their respective fields. The main idea or belief that I got out of this entire thing that is truly important in any career you may choose is that customer service is imperative to being successful and in return having a great career in the golf industry.

The Power of Personal Influence Five Short LessonsBy Karen Bergh

I can still remember the sting of embarrassment when the only female partner at the Big Six accounting firm I worked for made fun of me in front of my peers, everyone was laughing as I shrunk away from the executive meeting nearly in tears. That was almost 10 years ago, and there are now only the "Final Four" global accounting firms. At the time I felt powerless, but the lesson I learned during my recovery from that moment signaled the beginning of a new era of personal strength for me. I learned lesson number one in the power of personal influence Earn respect by displaying your confidence, and standing your ground.

Here's how I learned that lesson.

Cheap Custom Essays on The Power of Personal Influence: Five Short Lessons

I was the "token marketer" in a sea of technical accounting types and was presenting my spreadsheet for an event I was managing for the firm. The partner had been poking fun at how a marketing person couldn't possibly generate a budget worthy of this group. Following the meeting, I marched back to her office and demanded that she stop teasing mein effect putting me downin front of my peers. This, by the way, was not the first time she had acted in such a way, and I had already let it go too far.

I also pointed out that if she wanted my respect, and thus my support, the best way for her to have it was to earn it, and that as far as I was concerned her "putting me down" not only made me and others not want to respect her, but that it also made her look petty.

She immediately apologized, realizing that she had, indeed, made herself look small and had alienated a potential supporter. After that day, this partner demonstrated new respect for me I had taught her that I was no pushover, and that I spoke her language, respect.

Lesson number one in "the power of personal influence" is to earn your boss' and peers' respect. To do this, you need to first display your insight, knowledge and abilities--show that you do, indeed, "know your stuff."

Moreover, it is important to be confident, stand your ground, and anticipate their objections. It is important to establish "what's in it for them," and tailor your communication to appeal to the personal needs they may have.

Lesson number two always act from a position of strength.

How do you do this? I think there are two ways (1) act as an "internal consultant" to your organization, always seeking to add value; and () realize that you are constantly selling yourself and your ideas.

In order to sell yourself and your ideas, it is important to anticipate roadblocks or objections, obstacles to success, and always be one step ahead.

Lesson number three learn to be less task-oriented and become more analytical. By this I mean, don't always see yourself as the only person who can do a task or solve a problem. Think about how it should be done, and then consider whether you should recruit or direct others to help.

Further, think about how you can use a problem as an opportunity to teach others how to learn or how to solve the problem for themselves.

In later years, for example, I managed a staff of fourteen and one particularly sticky project just didn't seem to be getting done. I brought the team together and set the framework for discussion here's the problem, here's the background, here's why it's important to solve/fix it, who is going to work on this to come up with a way to solve/fix it? Any ideas?

The group was delighted, no manager had ever asked them to figure anything out, they had just been responding to directives. We made assignments that day for the action steps we would need, and met regularly after that until the problem was solved.

Lesson number four to be more persuasive, keep in mind the "Six P's."

I have identified a short, alliterative list to help you remember how to act when you are presenting your ideas

1. Prepared know your stuff, have it organized and anticipate next steps as well as potential objections

. Punctual arrive at any meeting on time; finish when you say you will; when you consistently demonstrate that you are conscious of other peoples' time, and respect it, then you will be treated similarly

. Precise don't waste words, don't take too long to explain something; get right to the point

4. Perceptive notice how others are responding to your words; use their body language and their questions and observations as your cues

5. Probe if you aren't clear on what someone is asking or saying, ask open-ended questions designed to clarify their concerns or points

6. Pause do not present an uninterruptible stream of information; those people who used to advocate "if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with b.s." were, umm, well, full of it! Allow time for interruptions, and in fact, encourage themthis is how you encourage buy-in and participation in your process.

Masterful presenters know how to do this intuitively, and have raised their persuasiveness to a high art. For those of us who are modeling our behavior after theirs, try using these six techniques from now on. See if people respond differently to your ideas.

Lesson number five know all the things you can do to keep the respect you've earned.

There are a few things I can think ofI'd encourage you to come up with othersthat will quite quickly lose you the respect you've earned, and possibly make it impossible for you to ever regain it.

1. Blame others

. Act unethically

. Break the bond of trust

4. Refuse to cooperate

5. Believe your ideas are the only ones that are right, or that matter

6. Deliberately mislead someone or hide something
