U.S. History

Importance of Our History

How many people do u know that likes to read the sequels to books before the first books. Most likely, you don't know very many. However, although you may complain how boring and useless it is, our country could be a catastrophe without it. Our country's people could also continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. How country could also do some costly things that we may've learned would not lead to good things from past experiences. It is very crucial that we study U.S. History because in the world today, we live with our countries scars still seen, its mementoes, and its everyday reminders of things still here.

Buy cheap The importance of our history term paper

Something that has a great impact on us even today would be the things that are still not dealt with, or residues or scars. These are things that happened in history yet still impacts us today. An example of these could be relationships. When a friend hurts u very badly by doing something, you will always remember it and it will always be there. That is kind of what these "residues" do to our country. When our country may get in a war or disagreement with another country, we will always remember that. In fact, that will always have an influence on the way our culture and lives work. For example, The U.S. and the Chinese are not on good terms sometimes, that deeply effects the way we live our lives. That one "residue" affects where we get our clothes from, where we travel, and our alliances in wars. Maybe even because of one bad disagreement, our country is impacted on many levels. Another example is disagreements within ones country. For example, the civil war had a large influence on our past AND our present. Although the war is not still physically going on, many people still have different views and live their lives different ways because of the war. When the war broke out, the north and south were split. Even now, people have a hard time agreeing with the people of different sides. Blacks and whites also relive the racism that goes on. Blacks may always feel that they were not treated right, therefore have different opinions on whites. Therefore, the "residues" left by our history are important to learn so that we do not repeat our mistakes and understand the reason certain things are in the present.

When you go on vacation, if you buy a souvenir while there, when you later look at that souvenir, you will most likely be reminded of the vacation. That is how are countries mementoes are. Things seen today will always remind us of our past. These mementoes can range from a building to a type of person. An example of this would be the recent attacks on September 11, 001. We will always have a remnant of that day whether it is by a person lost or New York City. Another example would be Pearl Harbor. That was also a great attack on America by another country. Through those hard times the Americans pulled together to unite as a country. We remember those times by either a movie or a memorial. We should learn of our past struggles and times of suffer to give respect to our remnants of our past.

We still have many reminders everyday of many things in our past, things good, and things bad. We also can still feel the remainders of our problems. Such as, nation ties and racism with the blacks and whites. However, we also have many great reminders of how great our country had done in the past. These remainders and reminders could be things we kept in our culture or people even remembered. We will always have a reminder of our country being free and not having a monarchy. That should remind you of the Revolutionary War and what our ancestors went through. They stayed unified to work together; we also do the same today as we fight away terrorism. We also have everyday reminders our past presidents who did great things for our country. We still have a remainder of our laws. We should be reminded of our constitution and Declaration of Independence when we think of our laws and freedom. We should then learn of our past to appreciate how far we came as a country and the great things that got us here.

As a result, we should study our past to see where our country got our "scars" so that we may not repeat them. We should learn of our countries time of suffering and the remnants of those so we can see how our history has effected the present day U.S. We should also learn of the everyday reminders and things left still seen of our country to appreciate where we came from and how our country cam so far. Learning of our past is beneficiary in many different ways. So nest time you are dreading class or complain of the boredom, think about how our history effects the present day and how learning about our past can help lives our lives as Americans to the fullest.

Infectious diseases were familiar in early periods and it was considered that they spread by contact, even though no one knew exactly how this happened. Epidemics occurred and frequently spread the Black Death in 14th century Europe is a well-known example and this perpetuated the widespread belief in many societies that they were due to paranormal causes. Undeniably epidemics were often considered to be divine punishments. The first definite suggestion of a scientific cause came from Hierinymous Fracastorol who thought that diseases were transmitted by "seeds of infection" either by contact, indirect contact or by transmission from a distance. These 'seeds', were thought to have faculty of multiplying and propagating rapidly.

Long before, in the hazy unrecorded past, someone picked up a piece of transparent crystal thicker in the middle than at the edges, looked through it, and discovered that it made things appear larger. Someone also found that such a crystal would focus the suns rays and set fire to a piece of parchment or cloth. Magnifiers and "burning glasses" are mentioned in the first century A.D., but apparently they were not used until the invention of spectacles, toward the end of the 1th Century. They were named lenses because they are shaped like the seed of a lentil.

The Dutch scientist Antoni van Leeuwenhoek around 1660 invented the earliest microscope. It contained a single round glass lens about the size of a raindrop. Van Leeuwenhoek realized that a glass sphere has a maximum possible curvature. As a result, a spherical lens has the maximum magnification of about 00 times. The invention of this microscope opened a whole new world. For the first time, people could see pollen grains from flowers, bacteria and sperm from male animals.

Although millions of microscopic examinations have confirmed this observation, it all began with the curiosity of Robert Hooke. He published his first meticulously detailed descriptions of cells in one of the most significant science books ever written. His most commonly known observations took place with a rather unlikely material a slice of cork; but with this the science of cells was born. What he saw reminded him of the small rooms in which monks lived, the cells of monastery. In fact he was observing an interlocking arrangement of plant cell walls. All of their contents had long since died in boxed solitary confinement. The empty boxes that he saw had once held active living materials. There was no suggestion in Hooke's report that discovery would be of great biological importance he did not realize that he had seen the building blocks of life itself.

Around 1660 Antoni van Leeuwenhoek designed and built the first microscope. The microscope had a spike and a glass lens on a flat sheet. He stuck the object he wanted to view on the spike and turned the screw to bring the object opposite the lens. Then he turned the microscope over and looked through the lens. Its appearance was an unusual design but the microscope had much success.

People had studied the body organs for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians knew that the inside of the body was made up of organs and they removed some organs during mummification. It was not realized that organs were made of smaller units called cells.

The first recorded study of cells was not until the 17th century when Robert Hooke used a microscope he developed to view a thin slice of cork. Unknowingly, then, Hooke had laid the foundations for a new science but about a century was to pass before the significance of his work was grasped. It was not until 1805 that the German naturalist, Lorenz Oken, formally published what has become known as the cell theory 'All life comes from cells and is made up of cells'. The cell theory also provides us with an operational definition of "life". The tutorial on prokaryote, eukaryotes and viruses explores this concept in more detail.

The cell is the fundamental unit of life. Your health depends on what happens within the many different types of cells that make up our body. The immune system is a network of cells (and organs) that has developed to defend the body against attacks by "foreign" invaders, like germs, that can cause illness. Under normal conditions, your immune system protects your body from diseases and infections by killing these harmful "foreign" substances that enter the body. The cell theory has relieved our battles of illness and showed us a simpler way of treating disease and recognize different diseases that contain different types of cells. We can now cure illnesses and identify them simply with a microscope.

Please note that this sample paper on the cell theory is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on the cell theory, we are here to assist you. Your persuasive essay on the cell theory will be written from scratch, so you do not have to worry about its originality.

In 1 the United States suffered from something called the Depression. Many things caused this to happen, some argue that the stock market crash did it. Whatever it was, it caused many hardships. There was a very unequal distribution of wealth at the time. Many farmers found themselves losing what had once been a high demand during World War I. Many peoples wages weren't enough to buy the products which would have kept the economy growing, and possibly kept the United States out of the Depression, but problems in one section of the United States would cause others to fail, which eventually cause the Great Depression. Although many people in rural areas weren't affected as much as those in urban cities, they were all affected in some way, such as a little girl named Areva Huish in Heber, Utah.

Life as a twelve year old girl during the Depression was hard for Areva. During the early years of the Depression Areva's loving mother died, so Areva's mining father was left with a family to support, and her fathers mining job disappeared shortly into the depression, so for awhile her father had know way to support his daughters. They had food, but very little besides that.

Areva was a very lucky young girl though, because years before the Depression her father had built his family a large cozy home so their housing situation was wonderful. Along with their home Areva's father owned four blocks, so they were able to have a garden with fresh vegetable, warm milk from their cow, chickens which supplied them with eggs., and a pig to slaughter in the fall.

Although there were many great things about living in a small city there were also bad things. Since her father had been laid off from his mining job they didn't have very much money to spend on other things they needed such as clothing, each of her sisters was only able to have two dresses. In the later years of the Depression her father was once again employed building tings around Heber.

Custom Essays on Areva Huish

When I asked Areva what things were al luxury she said, "Everything but what we wore and ate was a luxury" but she didn't mind it because at that time she had realized there was more to life than materialistic things. Her family was very loving and supported her, so she was happy, and didnt feel like she was missing out. Sometimes her father would even sacrifice his needs to make his daughters happy by giving them money to see a movie on a Friday night, and they would go to church every Sunday.

Along with movies, and church, Areva and her sibling got to go to school everyday of the week. Every morning she would wake up, put her hair in curls, and walk to school, where she would enjoy arithmetic and reading. Then she would travel back home at three-o-clock. After her day at school she would go milk their cow, then she would eat dinner with her sisters and father. Later that evening they would play games, read, and then go to sleep dreaming of what fun things they would learn in math the next day.

It seemed to me that everyone would have hated life and wished for something better, but I found out that it wasn't like that at all. Since Areva lived in a small town she had plenty to eat, but her father didn't have a job so they didn't have very much money, but they didn't need the money, they found ways to get by without it. Areva said, "We didn't expect much, we had plenty to eat, and we didn't' feel like we were poor because everyone else was just like us." "If I ever wanted something and my dad told me no, I forgot about it, he wasn't being mean, we just couldn't afford it." During the Depression everyone had to make sacrifices, it wasn't just one family, so know one felt less fortunate.

After the Depression Areva met a young man named Bob Huish and they were wed soon after that. They moved to Roosevelt and opened up a Pharmacy/ Soda Fountain Shop, which was just like a little convenience store, which all the little kids loved to go to, so they could have their soda.

Now Areva and Bob Huish still reside in Roosevelt, Utah near Constitution Park. Until this part winter they would leave Roosevelt and stay in St. George for the winter months, but Bob is and Areva is 84 so it is hard for them to travel like that these days.

In conclusion I believe that Areva's life was hard because her mother was taken from her life, and also with the Depression she was left to be a mother along with her other sisters. Overall Areva thinks that the Depression was a blessing in disguise because it helped her to know that she could live without all of the luxuries that we have today.

Jealousy in Othello

The tragedy of Othello, written by William Shakespeare, is the play of jealousy. The jealousy created continually throughout the play causes characters to have deep suspicions and apprehension about each other. This jealousy over a period of time starts major rivalry between characters. Shakespeare has specifically done this to fuel emotions, frustration and conflicts amongst both the main and minor characters in Othello. The jealousy in Othello is revealed in several ways with the most prominent being sexual jealousy. However, position, vindictive and resentful jealousies also occur and help add to the unfolding of the plot.

Throughout the play many characters are suspicious and fearful of being displaced by a key rival. This jealousy cumulates into a tragic outcome with death, frustration and emotions that have been strained from the outset of the play. The characters, often not happy with their own life and the way it's going, are compelled to interfere and control others.

It was originally Iago's evil-minded intention to make Othello jealous of Cassio, as he suspected Othello of sleeping with his wife, Emilia. However, it was due to Iago's cruel manipulation of Othello that made him jealous of Cassio and allowed him to believe that Cassio had slept with his wife, Desdemona. Sexual jealousy is paramount in Othello no more than when Roderigo was jealous of Desdemona. "Faith, I have heard too much, for your words and performances are no kin together." Iago duped yet another character, Roderigo, into paying him to try and get "beautiful, sweet" Desdemona close to him. However, as all the other characters eventually found out, Iago's intentions were for nobody's pleasure other than his own. This created mixed feeling of jealousy and mistrust between the characters. All of the above situations were caused by the powerful and irrational act of sexual jealousy that caused a mountain of tension between characters.

Buy cheap Othello jealousy term paper

As well as sexual jealousy, Iago was guilty of position jealousy. Iago was also extremely jealous of Cassio as he believed that he, too, had slept with Emilia. In addition to this, Othello promoted Cassio, "a Florentine", over Iago's head even though he was inexperienced and unproven removed from the grit of the battlefield.

In Othello, Iago was a skilful master at manipulating and exploiting the other characters. Iago didn't, despite all of the trouble he caused, have power over anything. The only thing he had control over were his emotions and, at times, he couldn't even control them. He says "Tis in ourselves that we are thus or thus. Our bodies are our gardens, to which our wills are gardeners." What he is means is that we only have control over ourselves. We are also the only one's who can take control over our feelings. As soon as Iago put his scheme into action, he saw results "Now art thou my lieutenant." He had Othello under his control, as he had anticipated. Iago told lies to Othello and to try and convince him to bring his own wants to life; one being lieutenant for Othello. Iago was ruthless and surmounted by jealousy, selfishness, prejudice, and he was also spiteful. He wanted to cause destruction for the sole purpose of satisfying his desires. A person could get pleasure out of hurting others, but there are always consequences. Iago also counted on the fact that the other characters believed he was honest for the entire time. His deceit was only revealed to us (the audience) and hence made us proxy to the foreshadowing of the final scene.

His manipulation is evident throughout the play, none more so than when he manages to convince "noble" Othello that his wife, Desdemona is having an affair with Cassio. He uses Emilia to steal the precious handkerchief off Desdemona, who is her best friend. This handkerchief, combined with his contrived conversation with Cassio about Bianca, and not Desdemona as Othello thought, was enough proof for jealous Othello to distrust his wife and eventually strangle her to death. He did this not out of hatred but out of immense jealousy and desperation as Iago was continually provoking him. He felt he had no other option "else she'll betray more men."

In Othello, jealousy is built up continually throughout the play and it reaches a climax just before Othello kills Desdemona where, Iago has managed to manipulate every character and force them to be jealous of another character in the play. It is Othello's failure to distinguish between what is true and what is not that leads to the tragic outcome. In his last major speech Othello explains that he was "not easily jealous, but being wrought". This statement shows how big of an impact Iago's actions had on Othello's feelings. Throughout Othello, Shakespeare is telling us how much of a powerful emotion jealousy is. Once it's aroused, it can cause immeasurable harm. Also, when jealousy is built into this intensity, it is uncontrollable as Iago found out.

What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. College is just like a dream. It will involve things that people have dreamed of in high school. It will be lots of fun, but there are other things to care for such as academics. Things like freedom, academics, social life, finances, and athletics. College will determine people's career, and it all will depend on how hard everyone works. Not everyone will be successful in college, but it is a place that everyone will experience and discover lots of new things. College is like a long party with a little bit of seriousness.

The main good thing about college is that everyone will have total freedom. In dorms, there are no bed and lights out times in dorms like at Saint James. But, one will have to have responsibility of going to bed at the right time to prepare for classes the next day. Also, there are no room inspections and no one will be required to keep the room clean. Going to class can be a problem with all this freedom. If one chooses not to attend a class, no one is going to prevent that from happening. However, people will need to learn to have be serious and have responsibility. Having freedom and control of over one self is really great, but it would not be good if everyone loses responsibility and end up failing out of college.

Academics are also a big part of college and freedom is also included in academics. No one will be forced to take certain classes to graduate. There are exceptions, but people will choose in what they want to major. Also, the class subjects are more advanced than high school class subjects. Most advance classes anyone can take in high school are advanced placement classes, which is a college course and there will be subjects that will surpass way beyond that level. People will get freedom to schedule their own class, time-wise. For example, my friend's brother is in college in New York and taking only one class a day around noon. Everyone's career will most likely depend on their academics success. It will depend on how well one does, so people will need to think about that before they go off to a party and pass out. Everyone should make sure not the make such bad mistakes that will ruin their academic work.

Social life is what everyone will experience the most since classes do not run all day. It is college, and there is going to be a lot of chances for everyone to drink at college, even though it might be illegal. So, it is all up to everyone to drink or not. In college, there are going to be lots of parties and even though they are in the middle of the night, no one will stop anyone from going.

Do my essay on College CHEAP !

College will not be free of cost, and it will never be free. Tuition in college is very expensive and not everyone is able to afford that tuition. One way to bring down the high price tuition in college is getting a scholarship. There is going to be a big price difference in tuition whether people are going to in-state or out-of-state colleges. Since everyone will be on their own, they will have to learn how to manage money. If not, that person will end up broke and that will be very awful. After the tuition, there will be books everyone needs to buy for their classes. Books are required in classes, and everyone will have to buy them and books cost lots of money. Damaging school property can also cause one to lose money. So, it would be a good idea to leave school property alone such as dorms, desks, and all that.

Athletics will be very competitive in college, such as National Colligate Athletic Association. NCAA will provide fun games to students in college. From going to NCAA games, people might build up school spirit by cheering and also, everyone will be proud of their school if their school does well in the league. And, there will be much more sports in college than high school.

People will come from everyone around the world to go to college in the United States. Since people come from everywhere around the world, people will have different cultures. There are lots of people at college, and not everyone will have same personality as others. Just like high school, college can have different groups of people such as thugs, jocks, nerds, preps, etc. Since all everyone will see is new people, everyone has lots of opportunity to make plenty of new friends.

College combines lots of things and it is fun, but people will also need to be serious regarding their career and for their own good. Freedom can also be a bad thing in college because it might lead people off to bad things and could cause them to fail. So, academics are the effects everyone needs to consider and know that college is not all about fun. I do not think anyone would like to see the face of their parents after getting kicked out of college.

Please note that this sample paper on College is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. Music is an unavoidable ingredient in everyone's life. Whether its music we play by personal choice or music we hear in supermarkets or a retail store. Society will hear music. What comes along with the music and markets the music is what will affect the listener. These include the casualties of music, its image and its means of promotion. Music does affect society and it is through these mediums in which it achieves it.

Casualties within music are frequent and tragic. Concerts, whilst enjoyable and memorable, regularly lead to tragedy and mayhem. For example on February 0, 00 'The Station', a club in Rhode Island, caught fire killing 7 people. (Guitarist among, 00). Suicides include Kurt Cobain of Nirvana and Ian Curtis of Joy Division. In July of 000 Eminem's wife, Kim Mathers was sent to hospital after an attempted suicide. (Eminem's wife, 000). On the positive side after Aaliyah's death her album sales increased from 6, 081 copies to 05, 11. (Aaliyah reaches, n.d). Hearing and reading about incidents such as these can affect societies views on death within music. It is so frequent that it is just seen as a common thing.

Image defines the music just as much as the music itself. According to Kellner (Madonna, 15). "Fashion offers models and material for constructing identity." Each musical genre comes with a certain fashion image. Rap stars have the baggy clothes and silver chains. Pop stars have the short skirts and revealing tops. Rock stars have the ripped jeans and messy hair. The fashion becomes a prescribed part of the music. Fashion also becomes a mean of rebellion. It is something that no one else can control. The certain fashion style suited to each musical genre affects how society looks.

Cheap Custom Essays on Music and its affects on society

How an artist is promoted, published and depicted will affect how a fan feels towards them and how they react to their actions. Pop icon Britney Spears was introduced to the public as an innocent girl, a virgin. Recent news reveals that she isn't a virgin, which was her original sell slogan. The fans she gained from her introductory persona will follow her actions and image. The idol sings about love and sex, when a majority of her fans are under 14 years old. The lyrics of a pop song and the image of a pop idol have a strong effect on its listener, what they see as acceptable and what they will become.

Concerts are one-off shows to promote and expose a band. Concerts are a type of culture because the majority of people are there for the same reason, to see the band they like. Concerts are also heavily media based and controlled. The public will become aware of the concert while walking down the street, watching TV or by any other means of media. At the concert itself there will most likely be souvenirs and t-shirts for sale. Concerts affect society because they are a gateway to sales and a media target.

Radio plays a big part in what society sees as popular music. "The organisation of radio broadcasting practices have been crucial in shaping the nature of what constitutes the main 'public face' of popular music." (Pop music, 18). In order to choose a correct advertising target for artists there are different types of radio stations. Radio then also caters to mostly all types of music lovers. The Top 10 or Top 0 songs of that radio station will define what is most popular within their listening audience. The radio station that a person listens to will affect their music tastes and other preferences in life. A radio station with a target market of 10-16 year olds might advertise soft drinks. On the other hand, a radio station with a target market of 18-5 year olds might advertise alcohol. Consequently affecting the listener's choices.

Music magazines are also a strong influential medium of media promotion. Magazines are what people flick through at the check out line or at the hairdressers. They are a direct link to what a musician is saying and wearing. They have interviews and pictures, showing the musician in a good or bad light. Music magazines also contain reviews, which are not from the artist label or the artist itself, but from a music critic. The record company or the artists do not own the music critics. What society sees and reads in a magazine place a heavy influence on the mind of the audience.

In conclusion music affects society through mediums of the media. Such as radio which has a variety of music stations to target all markets and music magazines which show society what a artist is wearing, doing and playing. It affects society through the influences it places on others. Music is a passage manipulated by the media to affect society.

Please note that this sample paper on Music and its affects on society is for your review only. The PBS show, Frontline, defines euthanasia as the taking of a a life as an act of mercy. According to the show, sixy-three percent of america believes euthanasia should be legal. A reason why most people would consider euthanasia is the relief that they will have when they know that they will not hae to endure any suffering from their terminal illness. Knowing that you will not have to experience the pain from an illness will make it easier to cope with death. The show particularly discusses two cases of a young woman suffering from anorexia and a defective infant with a split penis.

In the case of the young woman, twenty-five year old Maria, was diagnosed with anorexia at the age of ten. She relied on feeding tubes to stay alive and a good quality of life did not seam available for her in the future. At age twenty-six, she weighed a mere forty-two pounds. Now, Maria wanted to finally die and end the suffering she has endured for the last fifteen years of her life. Accepting the lethal injection prescribed by her physician, Dr. Kors, she would finally end the terminal illness.

The second case is of an infant born with a hole in the stomach exposing the intestines and an irreparable sexual organ defect known as split penis. The infant would need surgery to survive, but the sexual organ would have to be changed from male to female. With the help of hormone therapy, the infant would be raised as a female rather than a male. Dr. Molinar, the infants physician, along with the infants parents decided not to operate on the child and allow him to die. It could not be guaranteed, but it could be assued that a minimal quality of life was expected for the infant.

In these two cases, Maria received active euthanasia, and the infant received passive euthanasia. Maria decided to end her life with a lethal injection. Utilitarianims is committed to the view that an action is right only if it maximizes the good for everyone affected by the action(155). Even though everyone who was close to Maria would miss her, they all knew as well as Maria that her life would not get any better, and after battling with anoerexia for fifteen years, she has had enough. Her loved ones probably did not want her to suffer anymore, so the action Maria took to end her life maximixed the good for everyone. To oppose Marias decision would allow her to continue suffering with her illness.

Buy cheap Euthanasia term paper

Dr. Molinar decided not to operate on the infant, and the infant eventually died. The action of not operating to save the life of the infant was performed by the physician. The utilatrian aspect of this case would want to maximise the good and minimize the bad. The good for everyone affected by the action would be the parents and the physician, and after concluding that a good quality of life for the infant was minimal, allowing the child to die would be the best for the infant. Opposing this decision would make the physician operate on the infant and have him be raised as a female.

Persons, according to Kant, derive their dignity from two essential human capacities (1) unique ability of freedom of choice, and () the distinctive characteristic of rationality(187). Maria was able to choose the way she wanted to die and when she wanted to die. Her action was not decided by any emotions, passions, or inclinations, but by the simple reason that ther life was not going to get any better and her pain and suffering were not going to go away. In the case of the infant, the physician took it upon himself to rationally decide not to allow the child to live. The infant could not choose for himself to have the operation or to be allowed to die. The physician and the parents of the infant chose the action for the infant. Not wanting to raise a child with these many medical complications could have affected the parents decision to allow the child to die.

I believe that Marias case was justified because she had made the decision by herself and had already experienced what the rest of her life would be like. She lived for fifteen years with her anorexia and did not want to live any more with pain. She had lived a life, not a long life, but consequently a meaningful life like most everyone else.

In the case of the infant, I believe the action of allowing the infant to die was affected by some sort of emotions or the fact of trying to cope with such a difficult life that would lay ahead of the infant and the parents. Obviously, the infant could not make any decision for himself, but I believe the actions taken by the physician and the parents were not as justified as the action taken by Maria. In one case, a long life of suffering was ended, and in another case, a life was ended before any possible physical or mental suffering could be endured. In both cases, the good was maximized for everyone who was affected by the action, but reason was not the only factore that played a role in the decision making process.work cited

This is a novel whose author, Rebbecca Ray, was 16 at the time that she wrote it. It is a disturbing look into the life of a 14 year-old British girl who is struggling desperately to feel anything at all. At the beginning she seems to be anyones child. But as the story progresses, we see that her problems with her family, friends, and the choices she makes about boys and sex are average. Heres an example

I was about thirteen when I started letting the boys feel me up. There was a whole bunch of them, four or five, and at lunchtime wed all meet up; smoking a spliff out on the pitch if it was sunny, round their table in the library if it wasnt. Wed all be sitting around, eating our lunches, and Joel or Craig or some other boy I didnt really like would start putting his hand up my shirt. Or my skirt, I had a really short skirt and fucking awful legs but Id roll the waistband up on it to make it shorter anyway.

Writing this essay has been one of the most awkward assignments given to me. Im a very open person when it comes to talking about sex, boys, drugs and all the other topics that go along with it. However, once I hand this paper in the true "teen life" is exposed, the worst part is, our life is now know by our teacher. As I write this paper I do not imply that alll students are as I say. I am only giving my opinion on the majority of the teens at Lower Merion.

Pure, heaves off with the words I was thirteen when I started letting boys feel me up and ends up in the hazy mandate of its 14-year-old narrator losing her virginity to a 7-year-old radio salesman. He hits her and ends up doing speed with him. In the meantime, she fights with her parents, cuts herself and gives blow jobs to boys whose perspiring smell and zitty skin leave her repulsed.

example

(There is a sad apathy here)

I pushed Olivers trousers down to round his hips. I didnt look at what I was doing. I just didnt want to see. I felt his hands move from my chest. Down, over skin. My stomach and further. I felt him push my trousers down as well. The elastic of my pants was stretching. And then I felt him touch me.

It wasnt nice. Not really. But when I thought about it, it wasnt quite as bad as Robin. At least I didnt hate him. And I didnt think hed laugh. His fingers moved in. Not gentle. Not roundabout like he had been with my breasts. I guess it was do or die by now, though. I guessed he might as well.

He put his finger inside. Burning and stretching but he didnt seem about to stop. It hurt. It hurt a lot. But it didnt matter. I suppose that nothing ever matters, not really. I tried to think of biting and it got a little easier.

I felt his hips shift downwards and my eyelids ached from shutting them so hard. Two fingers, and the nails caught. Down further with his chest pressing hard, squashing my tits. I tried to breathe easy, I tried to breathe slow. Suck it. The feel of a handkerchief scratching on my lips. Teeth, I thought. Teeth.

But when he fucked me, there was nothing in my mind.

These are the high points of her life. But not just hers. Teens today have become so comfortable with sex that it has turned into just another activity for the weekend. It is not private, nor personal, just plain old fun. This book truly shows what a teens life is nowadays. If a parent were to read it they would be shocked and outraged, saying the book is unrealistic. Nonetheless high school students would connect in a number of ways they would become one of the characters. Lifestyles, of today's teens have changed dramatically for the worse. The years of sex, drugs and rock n' roll are nohting cmopared to 00. Being friends with a slew of different groups I know exactly what goes on, not from drawing an inference, but from a heart-to-heart talk. If anybody thinks that people in Lower Merion havent lost their virginity to people in thier mid-twentys they are very wrong. Each year the freshman grade grows up faster. This year they all hold 'open houses' and stay out until dawn. By all means staying out til 1 o'clock or o'clock is not nessary. As much as I hate to say this, kids have too much freedom. We need parents, we know right for worng but we are 16 we're going to do it anyway.

Reading this book made me realize how scarey and inappropriate our life is. Lower Merion is considered among teens the biggest 'sexual school' the amazing part about that is that many people are proud of it. I could care less if people kept their life to themselves but they don't. Instead they infect other minds of dangerous activities and it spreads like crazy. Sex was meant for love. A way to show affection to one special person, not to the whole senior class during health class is where we learn about sex, yet health teachers spend a week teaching the topic then forget about it. Students don't get the reality of it. We know a lot, but we don't know enough. I feel that students should read this book for the soul reason of realism today. Pure is written about us and its not a pretty story.

Christopher Columbus and the New World

Christopher Columbus' discovery of the New World was a negative historical event. Christopher Columbus' findings led to the exploitation and slavery of the Native Americans. The contact of the Europeans with the New World's Natives brought many diseases to the New World, which eventually led to the destruction of the Indians. The Europeans exploited the New World and destroyed the harmony with nature that the Native Americans had maintained for thousands of years. The Europeans brought a new disease, syphilis, back to Europe from the New World. Eventually, Columbus' discovery of the New World led to the decline and eventual eradication of a rich Indian culture that had been developing for thousands of years.

When Christopher Columbus first came to the New World, he said he believed that the Indians themselves were the New World's riches, yet he did nothing to protect them. Columbus said "the Indians of this island . . . are its riches for it is they who dig and produce the bread and other food for the Christians and get the gold from the mines . . .and perform all the services and labor of men and of draft animal" (Viola 1). Christopher Columbus began the genocide of the Native Americans and it is believed that he and his men killed or exported one-third of the original population that he found within four years. He captured Indians as slaves an shipped them back to Europe. Hundreds of Indians died in captivity. "His (Columbus') marauding band hunted Indians for sport and profit-beating, raping, torturing, killing, and then using the Indian bodies as food for their hunting dogs. (Weatherford).

The Europeans brought many new diseases to the Western Hemisphere that were devastating to the Native Americans. According to historians, these new diseases included measles, bubonic plague, yellow fever, amoebic dysentery, diphtheria, influenza, smallpox, the whooping cough, and malaria (Viola 85). In contrast with the nearly universal immunity of Spaniards, Indians were extremely susceptible to smallpox. To the Indians, smallpox was the most devastating of the new European diseases (Crosby 57).

It is logical that the Europeans may have received a new disease after all of the diseases that the Indians got from the Europeans. Historians believe that the Europeans brought syphilis back to Europe from the New World, but it is possible that syphilis was already in Europe and a new strain of it was brought over from the New World. Columbus and his crew returned to Europe in 14 and there were descriptions of a new venereal disease spreading across Europe within two years (Viola 17). Many people believe that the Europeans of the fifteenth century were the first to be in contact with syphilis. One contemporary of Columbus, Ruy Diaz de Isla, agreed that 14 was syphilis' first year saying, " the disease had its origin and birth from always in the island which is now named Espanola" (Crosby 1).

The Indians lived in harmony with nature for thousands of years before the arrival of Europeans in America. Indians described America as a "disease free paradise" before the Europeans came. When settlers came to the New World from Europe, they disturbed the ecological balance of America and began the industrialization of America. "No sooner did they (the Europeans) discover the new world than they began to subdue it; claim and settle it, till and harvest it, exploit and export it" (Viola ). According to descriptions given by early explorers, before the arrival of Columbus, America showed no real evidence of human contact (Viola 6)

The introduction of the Europeans to the Native Americans destroyed the Indian culture. Diseases that killed the Indians were most effective on the young and old which destroyed the Indians' educational system because the elderly taught the young all tribal knowledge. Deaths eventually wiped most or all of the Indians' tribal knowledge. Entire tribes died out and the surviving members of remaining ones were substantially weakened. Indians' life within the tribe was affected because medicine men, who were once respected and revered within the tribe, lost their positions and their honor due to their inability to cure his people of European diseases (Viola 1). Eventually, Indians that were not enslaved or killed by European diseases were forced west and onto reservations. Indians no longer had the freedom to hunt and travel as they had for thousands of years and they had to change their way of life (Viola 1).

Columbus' discovery of the New World could not have been a positive historical event in history because it had negative effects on everyone involved. The Indians, the people of the New World received new diseases, were killed and enslaved, and lost their culture and history. The New World itself was exploited and disturbed by the new settlers and explorers. Also, the Europeans received a new venereal disease, syphilis. "And so the Europeans located a New World, met a beautiful people full of love on its shining beaches, claimed the land, and enslaved the people who had occupied it for centuries" (Viola 11).

History is conveyed in many different ways. One of those ways is through textbooks. Textbooks organize and chronologically arrange the history of many different cultures. An assumption of textbooks is that the information that is being read is straight facts and contains evidence of the information that has been predetermined of a culture. What people don't know is that textbooks are just the authors' interpretations reflecting on what they have come in encounter with a certain topic in their own personal lives. An example of this is the way Indians are portrayed in several textbooks involving the discovery of America.

One view of Indians was by David S. Muzzey, "History of the American People (17)." His view of Indians is very prejudice and racist due to his own personal feelings dealing with and towards Indians. For example, in the text Indians are also known as, "copper-colored barbarians or savages." He called them copper-colored barbarians because of their difference in skin color. Indians were tanner in color compared to the whiteness of Americans. Savages was also another name given to the Indians by David S. Muzzey due to the fact that compared to the Europeans they were uncivilized and barbarous in American eyes. Also due to the Indians environment they were plagued with diseases and beasts in which they were powerless against. "Nowhere had they risen above the stage of barbarism," according to this statement by the author the Indians were unable to conquest their environment.

Another point of view of Indians was illustrated by Thomas A. Bailey, "The American Pageant (166)." The Indians were dying off because of their environment and the natural resources it contains. For example, "which was so sparsely peopled by Indians that they could be eliminated or pushed aside," there was no apathy towards the Indians and their way of life. Spain at the time was dominating and exploring the colonies wiping out and using millions of Indians. In 1574, Thomas A. Bailey figured 5,000,000 Indians were placed into slavery as he stated in his factorial. Indians were removed from their natural environments and forced to do things for the English. The Indians in Bailey's point of view were treated like nothings that meant absolutely nothing to anybody. Their way of life was being disrupted in English's greedy search for gold. It mattered nothing to nobody when they were continually getting killed as in the text where it states, "The English settlers, disagreeable though the thought may be, were more successful than the Spaniards in killing off the Indians…" Although the English wanted to turn the Indians into Christians their main reason for exploring the lands was gold. They didn't care about the Indians and for this reason Thomas A. Bailey was able to sympathize the Indians based on the facts he predetermined.

In 14 cultural diversity was becoming a big part of the American way of life. "The Brief American Pageant (000)," by David M. Kennedy, Lizabeth Cohen, Thomas A. Bailey, and Mel Piehl showed how just by giving the Indians a chance and not judging them, the benefits they could have on society. For example, the authors' state, "Over the centuries they split into numerous tribes, evolved more than two thousand separate languages, and developed many diverse religions, cultures and way of life," Indians were now getting the opportunity to expand in society. The main crop being grown by the Indians fed millions of people around the world. The Indians resources were being used for positive things. Native Americans were portrayed to be gentle and caring as well. As it is stated in the excerpt, "Unlike the Europeans, who would soon arrive with the presumption that humans had dominion over the earth and with technologies to alter the very face of the land, Native Americans had neither the desire nor the means to dowed nature with spiritual properties". Native Americans were also labeled properly, "Native Americans," compared to the slang version, "Indians." Indians were also portrayed as hero's, like when Pocahontas saved John Rolfe from death.

Cheap Custom Essays on Native Americans

History is rarely objective and although the textbooks are thought of to be telling the truth, they are really reflecting history's prejudice. As the time changes as do the different views that generation carries. Textbooks are written at many different times and because of the changing time historians' views on Native Americans changes. Information placed in a book or on paper is not at times always how it is and that is where "firsthand" information comes in. What this means is that not only do historians have their opinion on a subject they should have others as well. They always say two heads are better than one. The most important source in a textbook is the primary source. Finally then the truth comes out in writing because the author is able to see the past in the perspective of those that lived in it.

This scam refers to the many companies that were floated and which raised public funds through initial public offernings only to later disappear without a trace taking with them, the investors capital. The root of this menace can perhaps be traced to 1 when, in the name of `liberalisation, the government abolished the office of the Controller of Capital Issues (CCI) with a one-line order and asked the Securities and Exchanges Board of India to monitor the capital market. Many promoters took advantage of the prevailing situation, which allowed them to raise money from the public at fancy premiums, with the role of SEBI reduced to merely vetting Initial Public Offers prospectuses.

Between April 1 and March 16 more than 4,000 companies raised more than Rs 54,000 crore from investors through public and hybrid issues. Another 1,500 companies raised over Rs 4,000 crore through rights issues at very high premia. With practically no supervision from either the SEBI, the stock exchanges in which these companies got themselves รข€˜listed, or the Department of Company Affairs acting through the various Registrars of Companies (RoCs), most companies simply vanished in thin air in no time, leaving investors high and dry. Officials of the SEBI and DCA did not react for several years and only in the late 10s did investors see some action being taken.

Thousands of companies raised several thousand crores of rupees of public money and simply vanished, leading to a four year collapse of the primary market. None of the promoters of these companies have been caught, punished or prosecuted as yet. Initially, SEBI and the Department of Company Affairs (DCA) blamed each other for inaction, later when the Midas Touch Investors Association and the Investor Grievances Forum filed litigation, they set up a co-ordination committee and five task forces which were conducting a leisurely inquiry. They even assured the courts that DCA-SEBI co-ordination would lead to concrete action against vanished companies. Not only did this fail to happen, but SEBI even ended up wanting the entire business handed over to the police for action under the criminal procedure code.

So far, SEBI has sent show-cause notices to the directors of 80 companies identified by it as having vanished. The names of these directors were not disclosed even on SEBIs website, so there was no way of knowing who they are and if they are associated with any other companies. Top SEBI officials have claimed in internal meetings that none of these 80 companies have any false statements in their prospectus. This is rather strange, because so many investors who have lost money in vanished companies can reel of details of the personal wealth amassed by promoters after the public issues. SEBIs declaration that economic offences should be tried under the IPC after five years is too late for investors. It also does not provide for investors getting back their money.

If SEBI wants to transfer responsibility of vanishing companies, then its investigation department would have to be scaled down and the economic offences cell of the police strengthened dramatically. This is absurd when there is already an established market regulator in place. SEBI simply cannot be allowed to shirk responsibility. Investor protection begins to make sense only if the money misappropriated by industrialists is confiscated and returned to investors and penalties imposed on wrong-doers include cost and damages to investors. This is not the job of the police, it has to be done by the capital market regulator.

In fact, rivalry between the DCA and SEBI took a huge toll on the investigations. The DCA while doing nothing significant in booking the guilty, worked towards curtailing the powers of a fellow regulator such as SEBI. For instance, the DCA demanded that the Securities Appellate Tribunal, which handles appeals from companies against SEBIs orders, be scrapped and the appeals should instead be filed with the Company Law Board for disposal. The lack of coordination and the animosity between fellow regulators have led to such a pass that even after ten years after the scam, nobody has a conclusive idea as of the kind of money that has been siphoned off by fly-by-night companies that tapped the markets - perhaps running into several thousands of crores of rupees. In fact, against thousands of companies which have disappeared, gobbling up thousands of crores of rupees from investors, the High Level Committee set up in this regard lists only companies as `vanishing companies with the amount involved shown as only Rs 800 crore.

The need of the hour is a co-ordinated action plan involving regulatory bodies such as SEBI, the DCA and the stock exchanges to ensure that the small investors confidence in the market, to some extent, is restored. While it may be too late for Indias regulatory authorities to pin down thousands of companies and their promoters who raised money from the public and have since vanished, it would definitely make sense to at least go after the companies that cause greater damage to investor sentiments.

Regular or Web-Assisted classes?

I took web-assisted classes this semester, and it is my first time to learn on the web. I would like to talk about the differences between the regular classes and the web-assisted classes. No matter what you choose to take, they both have deadlines and they require work. However one can be very flexible and you have more time to meet the deadline. The other could have more homework for you and the benefit of the teacher's presence, also time consuming, now which one is which?

I would like to talk about how the deadlines could be different from one another. If you are in regular class you usually meet twice a week if not three times a week and for the web assisted classes you meet once a week or once a month. Usually the assignments for regular classes are due the next time you meet in class and for the web assisted classes the assignments are due at end of each week.

Which class would be convenient to take? It depends on how much time you are willing to spend on studying and how much time you have to go to school. For me I thought that web-assisted classes were better, because I have three little children and I was working full time. I didn't realize how much homework it had, especially if you have more than one web-assisted class at the same time. The regular classes don't seem to have a lot of work because you meet more than once a week. The web-assisted classes will seem like a lot of work if you wait till the last minute to do it.

Custom Essays on Regular or Web-Assited Classes?

I like to think that web-assisted classes are more flexible than the regular classes; you are your own boss basically if you have web-assisted classes. You set your own time for the assignments, you choose which one you want to do first, and you have one week to do it. In regular classes the time limit is a lot shorter about two days and you are not given the choice of homework you want to do first.

Regular classes are more hands on training than the web-assisted. What I mean by that is the teacher is your guide in regular classes and what ever questions you might have they are right there to answer them for you. In web-assisted classes you also have the teacher as your guide, but in an e-mail or the telephone. I would say if you are more like an auditory learner, then in that case the regular class is best for you. However it would not hurt if you took one web-assisted class as well, just to feel the difference and perhaps the similarities.

There has been much debate over the last few decades about prostitute law reform.

Prostitution is the act or practise of engaging in sex acts for hire. The act or an instance of offering or devoting one's talent to an unworthy use or cause.

There is much difference between the states of Australia when it comes to the issue of decriminalising prostitution. In the state of Victoria brothel prostitution was legalised in the 180s and has subsequently been legalised in New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory and Queensland. Tasmania and South Australia are soon to follow suit.

Do my essay on Prostitution is far from solved CHEAP !

Because of the controversy of the issue of prostitution it would be more advantageous for everyone involved either directly or indirectly with prostitution that the law became a Federal law instead of State legislation. With this legislation, it should include a minimum number of brothels, or escort agencies, placed in each state, maximum number of rooms for each, high security, and also regular sexually transmitted disease tests. Also, it should be changed that prostitutes working from their home do not need a development application (DA).

Currently, many cultures deal with sexuality differently. In Singapore and Denmark, having sex for money is as legal as any other enterprise and is done so in the open.

In the last decade legislation has been promoted as the solution to the problems that accompany prostitution in many countries such as the Netherlands and Romania. Governments in South East Asia are encouraged, in an important International Labor Organisation report, to officially recognise the "sex sector" and the contribution it makes to gross national income, a recognition that would entail legal acceptance of the industry.

Even though it is quite natural on a biological level for men to desire and have intimate relations with many females, it would be a very unproductive line of reasoning when considering the legalisation of prostitution. Instead, the overall benefits of the proposed changes must be considered.

The people who have traditionally opposed to the decriminalisation or the regulation of prostitution are those who have a moral objection to supporting any recognition of prostitution on the basis that if you recognise it legislatively you must recognise it morally.

Some people do not believe in prostitution morally and believe that it should not exist, but in reality, know that prostitution has existed from time immemorial. Those people who do not acknowledge prostitution but believes it exists think that there ought to be some regulation and controls on prostitution.

The first consideration for everyone who supports the above-proposed legislation is for the prostitutes themselves, for those women who operate in the industry and who need the protection of legislation to safeguard themselves from violence and dishonesty.

The prostitute law reform Bill in 18 encouraged smaller brothels which can be operated without the criminal element that tends to get in control of brothels once they grow to the point where the rewards of prostitution are significant.

Whatever legislation is placed in relation to prostitution it will not be able to protect all workers in the industry at all times. This however is accepted, as it is the same with all other laws placed in every country. Regardless of the policing going on to protect a regulated and decriminalised industry, the reality is that there will still be vulnerable people in the industry. If the changes are going to take place, it may go a large way to minimising the attacks that might occur on the people working in the industry.

It does not matter what legislation is written, there will always be people who will set up brothels, whether large or small, who will not comply with the legislation and try to get around it. The legislation will at least set up a framework and will give some sort of lead to the law enforcers to enable them to work in a more practical way with a legislative framework that regulates and decriminalises.

It was feminist efforts that led to the 14 United Nations Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others. That Convention calls for States' parties to make brothels and pimping illegal. In the 140s and 50s many countries, such as France, complied. Australia did not sign the 14 Convention on prostitution and trafficking. This history was ignored by those who worked for the legalisation of prostitution in Victoria in the 17os

Brothels were legalised in New South Wales in 15 but a number of councils and the State opposition have long vowed to block home-based brothels at any cost.

But home-based prostitution can be a major solution for street prostitution.

In the Western Mojave Desert, there is a species that is slowly disappearing. This fragile creature has been around for hundreds of years, but because of the condition of their environment, they may not be around for long. The Desert Tortoise is a threatened specie that needs to be protected. Some reasons why the tortoise is diminishing is due to habitat degradation from overgrazing, disease, raven predation, and collection for pets. It is now illegal to harm, touch, or hunt a desert tortoise. These species deserve to live in their natural habitat and deserve to be protected.

Habitat Degradation

Overgrazing from cattle is one of the problems that face the tortoises. The tortoises eat herbs, grasses and some shrubs. After a desert rain, the tortoises love to eat wildflowers or new cacti and their flowers. If the weather is dry, tortoises eat any dry plants they can find. The problem is that cattle usually get to all these plants before the tortoises can, leaving the tortoises with not much to eat. The tortoises are left scrounging for food. There are too many cattle with not enough vegetation to go around.

Another problem is road development, highways, and the use of off-road vehicles in the desert. Road development clears way the natural habitat of the tortoises. Since the tortoises don't know any better, they often try to cross highways but get ran-over by cars. The use off-road vehicles also damage the habitat in which the tortoises live. The sound of the vehicles scare the tortoises away from there familiar surrounding in which they move to unfamiliar surrounds. Along with road development, there is also land development. As more housing is constructed to provide for our growing community, the habitat for the tortoises disappears under concrete, fast food restaurants, and shopping malls.

Diseases

The most common disease that desert tortoises get is upper respiratory tract disease. This disease is very common but is still unknown what causes it or why it is so common. This disease causes mild to severe nasal discharge, puffy eye lids, and causes their skin to become dull and their shells to soften. Between 18 and 10, many dead tortoises shells were found that were linked to this disease and there was a major die-off in the desert tortoises. Some think that this disease is due to poor nutrition and dehydration. The tortoises aren't getting the right amount vitamins and minerals to help keep their immune system at its best. Another factor in this disease is the release of captive desert tortoises that are infected.

The Desert Tortoise Life Cycle and the Raven

The Desert Tortoise has a slow life cycle. The age of sexual maturity in the wild is 14 to 0 years of age. Only 1 to 5 out of 100 tortoises make it to adulthood and are able to reproduce. These slow developing creatures make it hard for the specie to keep the population up. The female tortoise lays 1 to 14 eggs once a year. This time is very crucial time for the baby tortoise because tortoise eggs are one of the Raven's favorite food. If a Raven finds the burrow where the eggs are incubating, they will more then likely feast on the whole clutch leaving no eggs to hatch. If the eggs get lucky and are not found by Raven's in the incubating period, they will more then likely be found by Ravens after they are hatched. Newly hatched tortoises have soft shells and are susceptible to many predators. This one of the reasons my many tortoises do not get the chance to make it to adulthood. Those who hatch and live to become adults are very luck and rare.

Collection as Pets

Before the Desert Tortoise became a threatened specie, it was legal to pick up tortoises and keep them as pets. Many would be collected in large amount and would be put in pet shops and would be sold to the public. This would take wild tortoise out of their natural habitat and not give them a chance to reach adulthood in the wild and therefore they would have no chance to reproduce in the wild.

The Desert Tortoise is a threatened specie but I believe that the tortoise will makes its come back very slowly. I think we should put more fences along the highways so that the tortoises don't try to cross and get ran-over. I also think that we need to limit the amount and the area that off-road vehicles have to use. Another solution maybe to try to stop overgrazing by cattle. Perhaps we could confine areas for cattle, and plant food especially for them. All in all, I believe that we are on the right track to help the Desert Tortoise gain back a healthy population.
